....What do you do now?
And what A-levels did you do?
Asking for DD16.

DD is making her A-level choices at the moment, with an eye on studying economics at university. She knows quite a bit about the subject (from her own reading) but I think she'd like to know a bit more about the range of career possibilities, maybe beyond the standard ones in the course leaflets or a vague 'something in finance.'

Her A-level choices are economics, maths, further maths and classics. Do they sound okay? Her current school has no sixth form so she's getting quite limited guidance on that.

Thanks to anyone who can help Smile

There are quite a few government/public sector job options outside core civil service - NAO, OBR, Bank of England

Loads of economists work for the public sector - civil service, regulators etc.. Economics is also a good solid degree for applying for gradiate training schemes in both the private and public sector.

Economics isn't a profession like medicine or architecuture but a social science with more maths - so an academic background in economics can take you down a number of different career paths depending on your skills and interests. I have a degree in Classics and a post grad diploma in economics so am at the softer end of economics! I work as a senior policy expert for a regulatory body. (Although I rely on the actual economists to do the hardcore financial analysis and charts I need 😆)

Not me but DD's undergrad degree was in Politics and Economics and then she did a masters in Real Estate Economics and Finance. She now works as a research analyst for a big real estate company.

I did A level Economics, Geography and French (and General Studies which was 'mandatory' at my college). BA in Economics & French. I work in banking (for a Euromoney's 'best global bank') as a management consultant.
