Dd and ds are ganging up on me . Saying g this mac can be used like a gaming pc . But I don't know if that's true?

I want to ask for MN help. But im not sure because I asked for help regarding a gaming pc and there was pages and pages telling me I would have to pay well over 1000-2000 for a gaming pc unless I build one myself . And I showed one for 700 and I was told it would be no good at all . But I bought it in the end and its been perfectly fine.

So I want to ask about the mac in the picture that I have shown. But I know absolutely nothing about them. But im also not sure about asking MN . Even though im asking MN. Anyway can games be played on this apple mac ?

Why are they ganging up on you? Don't let them bully you into buying a Mac when you have already bought them a £700 gaming PC.

Do you want to buy your children a gaming computer? That's the first question.

About that particular Mac, it's pretty old and worth noting that the Operating System cannot be upgraded to the latest Mac OS as the machine is too old. I'd be cautious of spending money on it for that reason alone. It may be that you won't be able to get necessary updates and won't be able to run certain programs.

Do you know what kind of games your children want to play on a Mac?

MMBaranova · 25/10/2024 16:40

I am sure that some games can. Why get something 9 years old with 8GB memory?

Pedallleur · 25/10/2024 17:15

Old OS and low memory. You need minimum 16gb poss 32 or 64gb and a graphics card. Let those who game pay for it. It's an arms race though. This years must have is old hat in 2 years.

HowardTJMoon · 25/10/2024 17:25

It very much depends on the game but if you're talking games like Fortnite, CoD, Sims, GTA5 etc then that would be a bad choice. It's nowhere near powerful enough. If you want to play Solitaire then it'll be fine.

Justwantosay · 25/10/2024 17:30

I'm not a gamer so know nothing about gaming computers but I have a similar aged Mac, which I'm looking to recycle. Its not fit for much else to be honest!

I have not bought ( them) a gaming pc. That was ds Xmas present last year. I meant they are ganging up on me to buy dd a mac for gaming for this xmas. Which I would not mind if I know it would work but I'm not convinced it would not for that cheap

OP don't mind if I ask what gaming PC you bought for your son? Also what sort of games does he play on it?
I'm considering getting one for my son but I don't know anything about computers and don't have a massive budget so don't want to waste money!
