Job hunt advice- multiple interview offers

I’ve worked at the same small charity for 15 years. I’ve progressed up but never been delighted with my pay which is fine as it’s 3rd sector, or so I thought. They’ve just decided they need 2 of me and have advertised my counterpart at £8k more!

I have opened pay negotiations but am so annoyed I also applied to two larger charities and a government org in a bit of a rage.

I’ve now got 3 interview invites across 2 weeks. I’m absolutely aware I could bomb 3 interviews or indeed decide the organisations wouldn’t suit me; but what I’m more worried about is getting multiple offers?!

I can’t be the first person with this problem, what do you do if you get an offer but you’ve got an interview the next week? I’ve been out of the game so long. Typically the highest paying one that’s the best fit is last!

You could accept the offer and still go to the other interviews a week later. It'll take them ages to sort the paperwork and you'll need to work a notice so it'll give you time to change your mind and withdraw if the 2nd interview goes well and you prefer it.

Thanks, I guess I was hoping specifically for third sector advice- am I being a dick if I do this?

The 3rd sector is still a business and needs to pay it's staff competitively.

Go for all the interviews. Cross that bridge when you get to it.

Just do all the interviews and if you get offers you don’t have to accept immediately, often people will take a while to consider or want to see the full contract before they completely commit so don’t stress too much.

Good luck in the interviews! And that’s shocking of your current company, if they offered you more than the £8k would you even want to stay?

Having an offer on the table is actually a really nice lever to use with other organisations. You can tell the other orgs you have an offer on the table. It makes you a more desirable candidate and encourages them to speed up their process.

Cross that bridge when you get to it - I had a lot of interviews last I was looking earlier this year and was worried sometimes about what to do if I got an offer but was waiting on something I was keener on. Didn't happen in the end, though I was offered two equivalent posts at the same place and had to choose one!

No but if I don’t get any of these 3 at least I might get paid more while I’m hunting- and I can state the higher figure as my previous salary.

I suspect they will match not exceed the £8k which is a whole other thread!

Thankyou this is super reassuring- I guess most people apply for multiple jobs so it’s probably not that unusual but feeling super rusty.

The interview offers alone have hugely boosted my confidence and it’s been nice to book the time out in my calendar- my manager definitely suspects as she’s been fishing for info without asking directly.
