Can't get cheap food /rationing

I feel like the cheap brand/economy type food is much less available than it used to be a few years back. I used to be able to fill my cupboards with it when money was a little tight. But I have not been able to do that for a long time now.

I do the kids main meals.

But I have always allowed them to help themselves from the kitchen as well. But things are so expensive now I don't think I can allow that anymore so i was thinking about doing them a snack box type thing. I think it will be easier to do it for My younger kids. But harder for the older ones.

The value ranges have different names in each supermarket which makes it even more difficult to find things you need
When you look online for say " crisps"
It will help a little if you filter
Price from low to high( underneath the search box)
The more you use the same supermarket it saves previous orders as favourites.

Even even you put cheapest to lowest it often does not show the value type ones. When I used to shop at Asda I used to just write snart price in thr search bar abd 100s of things used to cone up . Not anymore though (yes) I know its changed the name. But no matter what value name i put for what ever supermarket only a handful of stuff now comes up

I've just checked for an example
Sainsbury's basic range is " Stamford Street"
It lists all the cheap range when you search for that

I know the value brands have been changed to different names it's Been that way for a while now. But there's still hardly anything compared to what there used to be. I can't member what shop it was . But when I looked before 75 items of the chesp brand came up before it used to be 100s you could litterly do a full shop

Sainsbury’s vale range is called something else now, and I think a lot is price matched to aldi

I think it’s called Stamford Street. I bought some penne pasta the other day - perfectly good.

Have you tried discount shops like TJ Maxx? It seems like all the discount stores have increasing amounts of junk food, probably intended as party food or goodie bag fillers. Biscuits, crisps, lollipops, candy etc that are usually cheaper than supermarkets.

Try the trolley.co.uk app - I've just put in Stamford Street, sort by price, find the "show more" link right at the bottom - pages and pages of stuff.

I stick 100 fags in the basket, checkout then go back and amend the shop. Most let you make changes till the day before delivery

I remember someone who did that once but with quite a lot of bottles of wine

Forgot to amend the order and the delivery then turned up

OP - is it possible for you to get a bus to somewhere with a B&M/Home Bargains/Poundshop type place - just to get a snack supply? They normally do cheap crisps/cakes etc and they wouldn't be heavy to carry.
