Night screaming with virus?

Has anyone experienced this with one of the viruses currently around?

DD had a fever for 24 hours earlier this week, she is right as rain now but can't sleep more than 30 minutes without waking up screaming.

She doesn't seem to be in pain, more like she's having horrible nightmares (screaming "I don't want to!" Or " I'm stuck!"). She will stand up in her cot looking dazed then cry for me.

It's very odd! Any ideas? I was hoping last night was a one-off as I ended up with no sleep after 3pm, but it looks like we're in for a repeat...

How old is she @Feelslikefallinginlove? I suspect quite young if in a cot. My youngest dd, now 8, has had similar since very young. For us I believe it's night terrors, sometimes it can be frightening to watch. Last night she was screaming the place down "mummy mummy help they've taken my bottle". In my experience she has them after or during an illness or when she's over tired or over stimulated.

When you say she can't sleep for 30 minutes without screaming is it every 30 minutes or just the initial sleeping? It often occurs in REM sleep, the initial sleep stage and if she's waking every 30 minutes it's a self fulfilling prophecy as she'll be stuck in the cycle.

My dd now settles quite easily after an episode. The virus maybe a coincidence so hoping someone else will be along with ideas/questions for you. Hope you both get some rest.

Agree, does sound like night terrors. Horrible to watch and unable to comfort them fully. I remember I was quite old when mine stopped. Was accompanied by sleep walking too

My son gets night terrors when he gets a raised temperature from a virus. They look scary but he doesn’t remember them, the best thing to do is get her back in bed quietly and calmly then shush her back to sleep. Don’t bring it up in the morning unless she does.

Thank you! Ds used to have night terrors and it seems similar but he would only get the one, which lasted ages early on in the night and that was it.

@Phoenix76 as you say maybe she is stuck in that cycle.

Oh yes they are horrible. My boy would shout 'where are you mummy please, where are you', and I'd be right there cuddling him and shushing him gently back to sleep. He got them between ages of about 4 and 9.

I had terrible nightmares with Covid.

Yes so did I actually! Maybe that's what she has, I best start looking forward to horrible nightmares myself!
