If you WFH what has your employer provided you with?

Better chair needed, back is suffering, Our home is now suffering as we don’t have space and it’s getting us down, but that’s another matter. I feel companies are getting away with the expense of providing chair, desk, stationery, headsets, etc etc and so another thing they are saving on, so why not replace it with an allowance or actually checking what you need? Annoying that it’s taken for granted that employee just provides everything that employers once had to.

Anyone else similar or is it just me?

I get nothing but equally I am allowed to go in every day if I wish. Rightly or wrongly I feel if it's my choice to WFH then I bear the expense of the set up. I think I'd feel differently if it was imposed on me.

Have you not had an assessment? We have to do one annually. Provided with desk, chair, laptop, screens, mouse, keyboard.

If you don't have the space then WFH won't work for you.

I am fully wfh and get whatever I need including things like headphones and a chair. I think I am lucky really.

DH got a laptop. He had a monitor and keyboard for a while, but he returned it as he never used it.

Bought own chair... save a lit more on commuting than the one off chair cost!

Ask, they may be happy to provide this.

If your home is unsuitable for WFH, can you go into the office every day instead?

This is exactly our arrangement. Many do go on full time, but I do a few days a week at home. I see it as my responsibility to make that possible and comfortable.

i work part time and have one day in the office though I could go in more (its over an hours commute and i wouldn’t choose to go in more than one day…but i could)

dh is supposed to be in for 2/3 days a week

Is it your choice to work from home or not? - if there's a desk you could be sitting at in the office many employers will say well, go there if you don't like it at home. Different for those without any office base.

During Covid my employer provided a bigger screen, keyboard, mouse to use with our regular laptops. There was an allowance you could use for a chair but I didn't because no room for it. We also had health and safety assessments which led to me getting a back rest for my (normal) chair instead, foot ramp, wrist supports if needed. I don't know what they offer now and if it has changed.

I WFH from 1999 to last year. I had everything provided, chair, monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, laptop, broadband, phone (before Teams). The desk was on offer but I used my own as their office desk didn’t suit my home.

We had to do a DSE assessment every 12 months.

My work provides a laptop, keyboard, mouse and headset. The same they provide for everyone, whether they WFH or not.

Does your office make you work from home? Or were you hired entirely remotely? If so, I can see a case for requesting a proper chair etc. If you have the option to work from the office where all that is provided, I don't think you can really insist they furnish that choice.

If you have the option of going into the office then you can't really complain - they're not forcing you to work from home, presumably the advantages of it outweigh the disadvantages!

If there is no office space and the job was advertised as wfh and there's no other option, then they should provide you with the necessary equipment.

However, there's not a lot a company can do about you not having enough space- they aren't going to buy a bigger house for you! If you took the job knowing it's wfh it was unwise knowing you don't have sufficient space

I get everything- desk, chair, desk light, computer, two monitors, keyboard, mouse, headphones etc. But we have to use our home broadband. There are no offices left. All staff have to work from home.

If we are contracted to WFH we can get chair etc.

If we are contracted to a location, which is available everyday, but choose to WFH, we get laptop, screen, keyboard, mouse, docking station.

I get everything I would have in the office environment although I already had a suitable desk. Additionally I was sent a hard plastic mat as the wheels on the chair were ruining my carpet. I am grateful for this sort of consideration given how little the OP has been provided!

If you work from home full time you can fill out a tax return to claim the “expense” back, which reminds me I have never ever done it so I should probably do so and back date it

Laptop, 32inch monitor, chair (which I asked to take from the office during covid), headset, webcam, mouse, keyboard, footrest and back support.

I provide my own desk and they've never asked for my chair back since covid, everything else is relatively new as it was all upgraded this year. I go into the office 1 day a week.

My husband is contracted WFH, not possible to go into office. He had a contribution to a desk and his chair paid for. They sent all the equipment laptop etc, he gets £26 broadband allowance in his salary p/m.

We get whatever we need, which obviously differs from person to person. I have a standing desk, office chair, monitor, key board and lap top (and mobile phone)

We are given a monitor to go with our laptop. Nothing else. We all have to WFH now as there is no office. Luckily DH and I already had a proper desk and chair as I had been WFH off and on.

My company provides the lot as well if we want it and also does the regular assessments. We can also book desks in one of our offices or work at clients whenever needed.

Good employers look after their staff, bad employers try to save money by penny pinching around office equipment. This notion that WFH is some kind of perk which must be punished by bad chairs or self funded offices is ludicrous.

Employers save a lot of money when they can assume a lower percentage occupancy of offices and employees bear the costs of surrendering part of their home for company free use. Its hardly an accident that HMRC have a (small) tax allowance for employees who WFH.

Job started off as working in office full time. Great not far to travel. Covid led to wfh, then office closed. Now wfh no choice. Supposed to be hybrid but new office too small and travel is over an hour if connections okay. The only checks were during covid since then nothing. Asked HR but vague replies. Asked IT and it’s like begging. Just wondered if this is normal.
