I am in Adelaide and compared to other places in Australia I'm not that keen because everything is so far away. I have just travelled from Perth and it was better because everything was closer and here I wanted to do an open top bus tour and they don't do things like that here and the guided walking tour has stopped running so you have to have a map and a list of buildings and do it yourself by reading the information against each building on the leaflet which I do not want to do and I really wish I'd stayed in Perth

These things are all walkable in the CBD or easily accessible by public transport so no need to do a tour.
You could visit the Haighs chocolate visitor centre on Greenhill road, tram to Glenelg for the beach, Chihuly in the Botanic Gardens, Adelaide oval roof climb, visit the Mortlock room at the State Library on North Tce, Museum and Art Gallery are also on North Tce, go for a wander around the Central market, take the bus up either the Parade or Kensington road and visit the Penfolds Magill Estate winery.
It’s also fine to chill out too. No need to rush around and do everything. I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

My kids just reminded me about the Zoo. It’s on the edge of the CBD and it’s tiny and chilled.
Or Cleland wildlife park if you want to hand feed kangaroos and pet a koala. Buses go fairly regularly.

Buses to not go regularly when I look at up it said before hours

I don’t know what before hours means.
But I take the kids regularly and we almost always see buses leaving or arriving so I assumed the buses would be running regularly.
Sorry for the misinformation there.

When are you leaving Adelaide? It might be worth changing your departure date if you aren’t keen. No point ruining your trip when Australia has loads of other places to visit and it sounds like you would prefer a big city instead.

My kids said to tell you that if you’re still here on Saturday it’s the Christmas Pageant which is an experience for sure!

I enjoyed being on the seafront and watching pods of dolphins go by every morning and evening. Quite liked Adelaide personally.

Ozgirl75 · 29/10/2024 08:57

I mean, it’s Adelaide, a small town and it doesn’t sound like you really like much sightseeing. What did you plan to do when you booked the trip? Like, why did you visit Adelaide in particular? I guess it’s like coming to the U.K., visiting….I dunno, Winchester? And then complaining that there’s not much to do.

Adelaide is perfectly fine but it’s really not the place I would base myself for a trip to Australia. How much longer have you got? There are some things to do like visit Kangaroo Island, even Coober Pedy or Uluru?

Ozgirl75 · 29/10/2024 09:00

Haighs chocolate factory is brilliant! The chocolate is absolutely delicious and the factory tour is fun.

Kelvinator1 · 29/10/2024 09:26

What made you travel all the way to Australia in the first place? You sound like you are hating every minute, I find it weird you put yourself thru the long haul flight & then be so negative/uninformed about where you were visiting....you've had lots of good suggestions, and your pal in Perth sounds like they were looking out for you & making sure you were comfortable when out & about - which made u angry apparently!

EBearhug · 29/10/2024 09:37

There's loads to do in Winchester!

Ozgirl75 · 29/10/2024 09:53

I knew someone would say that! I actually wasn’t dissing Winchester, just trying to name a pleasant but kind of “normal” place that you wouldn’t necessarily travel 22 hours on a plane to visit 😁

Ozgirl75 · 29/10/2024 09:54

There’s actually lots to do in Adelaide but you have to at least look into things before you arrive.

miked99 · 29/10/2024 10:14

Kayaking at Adelaide dolphin Sanctuary was my favourite thing - no prior experience needed. Closely followed by previous suggestions like rooftop tour of Adelaide Oval, and all the beach suburbs like Glenelg and Semaphore , McLaren Vale is close by too.

I have just booked a trip to Kangaroo Island the problem I've got is that I am only here for a few more days and the trip I wanted was fully booked until nearly the end of November so I have had to find another tour but that didn't work for various reasons so the lady at the Tour office so I was speaking to said you can combine two tours into one and what she meant by that was the original tour that couldn't accommodate me might be able to take me to where you pick up the ferry for the island and then I can join another tour company to tour the island and then the original tour company will take me back to my hotel. She made all the enquiries and the original tour company could take me on any day and then drop me off so that I can join the other two accompany to tour the island but I would have to pay two tour companies obviously so the tour company that's taking me to the ferry port is charging me One price and the other two company is charging me another price so all in all the price for both companies comes to more than I would have paid if the original tour could accommodate me but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity so I thought however much more it costs I will do it because I want to see it and I might regret it if I don't and so converting the whole price to English pounds comes to 280 pounds.

Seven people would say that it's far too much money to pay for a tour but when you think about it if that's the only tour that's available when I'm in Australia then what other choice do I have paid this extra cost or miss out all together so I've paid it.

OP posts:
Flute56 · 30/10/2024 08:13

I am there for paying 120 pounds more to go on the same tour using two companies so I am asking whether anybody else on here would do this or they would say I don't want to pay the extra let's forget about it

Is it something you really want to do? Can you afford it? If both those are true, then it doesn't matter what anyone else would do.

Yes and yes

I hope you enjoy it! I've never made my way down to Kangaroo Island. Are you visiting anywhere else in the state or just capital cities?

Kangaroo island is beautiful. It is a large island so expect quite a bit of time driving once there.

Yes I don't know how much time we will get there but we get picked up at 6:45 a.m. and we get back at 10 pm and I have researched this island and people actually do live on Kangaroo Island

OP posts:
StartupRepair · 30/10/2024 11:13

Oh yes there are small towns, large farms there, gin distillery and a very rare strain of honey bees.

Flute56 · 05/11/2024 19:16

I have come back to this thread because I did go to Kangaroo Island and I enjoyed it but I have been criticized for going to Kangaroo Island by someone who looked it up on the internet on YouTube and said it was very boring and they wouldn't do it side then said but hundreds of people do it and they said it's the complete waste of time and money I said well do you think I've wasted my money and the person said yes

OP posts:

I said to this person you were the one that said why don't you go to Kangaroo Island and this person said to me yes but that was before I watched it on YouTube and so how boring it was if I had seen it on YouTube and realized how boring it was I would never have suggested it

Surely your actual experience is more valid than someone watching YouTube ? Glad you enjoyed KI.
