A very dull thread about transporting salad.

A recent blood test showed I am pre-diabetic so I need to change my diet to reduce carbs, so less sandwiches for lunch, more salads. However, transportation is an issue. I have a 20 minute walk, train journey, then 20 minute walk to work. What do people use a) to stop everything getting unappetisingly jiggled about and b) for transporting dressing so it doesn't leak?

TIA

I used the little travel bottles you can buy for shower gel etc for sauces when I commuted on my bike in the past (new job has department fridges so I just buy bottles of sauce/dressing and leave it there). Salad does just get mixed together a bit but I’m not fussy about that as it all goes down the same hole, so I’m afraid I don’t have a great solution here, maybe the bento style boxes and separate stuff out into compartments but then presumably you’d want to mix them together to eat anyway. I’d be having ‘mixed’ salad anyway though. No ties or recommendations for this brand in particular as mine came from a local independent shop, but usually just use the screw cap ones and you can wash them out afterwards.

I use empty herb/spice jars for dressing. I pre chop and mix my salad (2 or 3 days worth at a time)and pack it into a 'just big enough tupperware type box. Chopped nuts and seeds also in empty jar. Protein separate. Either a tin of tuna or cooked meat in a bag. All stored in a lunch bag with an ice pack

Thank you for these replies! I've ordered the sistema salad box and a shaker type one with seperate pot which could be used for lunch or breakfast. Thanks!

I know this is not what you asked but you can also buy Thermos soup containers that I find really good.

Another option could be the 'jar salad' format.

Likely not a glass jar due to weight, but if you get a tall plastic container and layer in your ingredients in the same way with the dressing in the bottom, then
anything that would be made soggy if in contact at with the dressing at the top, with a buffer layer of protein and more robust veg in the middle that could work?

Of course, a healthy diet doesn't need to be limited to salad, especially in winter, so you could take leftover healthy dinner, soup frozen in batches etc.

Whatever you eat you can tip it out onto a plate or eat from the container, I don't take any notice of how it's presented.
