Calendars - how do you hang yours?

Ok - this sounds like such a basic question and I would have thought at my age I would have (and probably should have) seen how other people hang their calendars (think monthly calendar on the back of the kitchen door) without them getting destroyed during the year and the key bit of information here is if the calendar only has a punched hole to hang by.

I'm not talking about calendars that are spiral bound and have a metal hanger built in. I'm talking about the others that just have a really small hole to hang it by. Do you start hanging by a string and keep adding string each month?

How do those sorts of calendars hang properly so you can change from month to month?

A nail on the wall. In terms of getting destroyed - I assume you mean the bit of paper between the hole and the top ripping? That doesn't often happen with ours - my guess is that having it on a moving door is the problem.

I reinforce the hole with a small strip of sellotape above it (or you could use those actual punched hole reinforcements).

That might be part of the problem there @LittleRedY0shi - we have a place on the back of the kitchen door (wall space is at a bit of a premium in our kitchen). I might see if there could be somewhere else we could hang it.

I use an over-the-door hook to hang and then put a piece of thick ribbon through the holes at the top of the calendar. It’s better than a thin string that cuts through it.

I have mine on a nail on the kitchen wall. That way it only 'moves' when I turn the page over each month. I write on it in situ, because I found taking it down and putting it back up was what ripped the hole.

I attach the string to a little bulldog clip, then clip to the top of the calendar it's then easy to change the month. Surprisingly it stays on!

No idea why that has come up twice! Confused

Brilliant. Thank you all - I was using a hook like this and as the months go on, they start to tear the pages as the hook part gets wider towards the bottom.

I've bought some of the hooks that you suggested @Plump82, and if they don't work, I might go with your suggestion of a bulldog clip @hexsnidgett. These options I think will give me a wider choice of family planner calendar for our kitchen.

Thank you again.

I use a hole punch to make the hole larger and further in from the edge of the page, and hang it on a picture hook in my kitchen.

This. If a rip appears just reinforce with some masking tape.

I use a bulldog clip too (it's a pretty one with a floral pattern). Useful for clipping shopping lists/reminders to as well.

Tintackedsea · 27/10/2024 08:32

A wee fold back bulldog clip then over a cup hook screwed into the wall.
