Think I’ve got a bit of a stomach bug / upset stomach, feeling really nauseous and can’t eat much, I’m drinking water and ginger ale, any other home remedies which may help it pass quickly?!

Flat full sugar Coca Cola and salted crackers

Thank you! Will that settle the stomach, stop the nausea and give me some energy back ?!

Anything minty works for me, even polos.

I also keep a mint liqueur just for this sort of thing.

And yes, something salty to increase stomach acid (don't overdo plain water).

Thank you, how long should it take to clear?!

Peppermint tea is good for nausea, and also helps things move through your system iyswim

Salted pretzels (actually a remedy in Germany)
Sips of water
Full fat Coke

Cloud44 · 22/10/2024 11:36

Would salted peanuts also work the same?!

I'm another advocate of coca cola. I personally like the cherry one. But no diet!
Crisps
Toast and marmite
Scrambled egg

Thank you everyone, I know I’m being a bit of a wimp, just not got time to feel ropey at the moment!

This might help a bit if you have a bit of tummy upset, not due to the stomach flu, but it won't help if you can't keep it down. Suck on ice chips, or small sips of water throughout the day. Water, clear broth, clear fruit juics, sports drinks and coconut water are recommended. Oral solutions ( such as Dioralyte) are good too.

When should I start to feel more normal?!

No one can tell you, it could be anything! A bug starting, something you ate disagreeing with you, Covid ...There's anti nausea medicines etc. But otherwise you just need to wait it out and see if it develops really. There's no timescale anyone can give, but usually 24 hours will see progress in one way or the other!

Cloud44 · 22/10/2024 13:59

Urgh! When will I know if it’s ok to go back into the office? Because the nausea may persist for a few days and I need to go back in this week at some point but obviously don’t want to spread anything.

Small can of tonic water always works for me.
