To hairdressers - why does my hair go greasy so quickly at home but not at hairdressers?

My hair last 2 days before it needs a wash. When I go to my hairdresser, she washes it and puts various products on it but it lasts a good 3 or even 4 days before it looks greasy. Why is that? I just use high street shampoos at home. Is it the type she’s using or is she just better at washing it!?

Not a hairdresser but it's got to be the washing technique ie washing twice to get scalp cleaner or maybe or the shampoo. Have you used the same shampoo as them to test it?

I use two different shampoos, one clarifying and one volumiser, I leave them on for about 3 mins each after a good scrub on my scalp which helps.

Do you blow dry you hair?

Only realised recently hair goes greasy so much more quickly when you air dry it.

They wash it properly imo. My hairdresser said to me most people don't realise that you actually need to but a bit of effort into washing your hair - when I showed her what I normally did, she said it was the equivalent of just gently wiping a dirty pan. I needed to actually "scrub" my head, which I now do - and can get 4 days when I used to just get 2!

I also apply the smallest bit of dry shampoo (powder) just to my roots just after freshly washing, stops any oil going down the hair and looking greasy.

Yes I do think perhaps I’m not vigorous enough. She does give it a good old scrub. Maybe I need to just put a bit more effort in!

I'm the opposite! My hair is disgusting within about 36 hours of a hair cut.
I usually wash my hair twice a week, don't use many products compared to the hair dresser but I think I touch my hair a lot more after it's been cut as its styled differently (straight v my usual curly).

My sister is a hairdresser and says to use a good shampoo and always wash and rinse it twice and give the scalp a really good scrub both times. I think that is the key difference.

Family member is a hairdresser and says it’s a combination of not washing your scalp vigorously enough, not rinsing well enough, using water that’s too hot, air drying as opposed to blow drying and not cleaning brushes and combs often enough.

I use a plastic Tangle Teezer and must admit I just pull the hair out and occasionally give it a quick rinse under water but not a proper clean!

I won't use cheap supermarket shampoos as I think the amount of (strong sulphates) detergent in them is too high so I buy from the hairdressing wholesalers brands such as Paul Mitchell, Redken, Osmo etc.

However, if you bleach or colour your hair, you'll probably find it doesn't get greasy as quickly.
