I'm listening to DS2 playing a computer game.

He's 21yo playing in our dining room, so it's not like I'm eavesdropping.

He's a real worry to me, had a series of huge setbacks during and after covid and effectively a nervous breakdown, which we're starting to see some slow progress in recovery.

He's now working, in a minimum wage job, but at least he's getting up and out daily and having some interaction with people, but he doesn't have any social life, except on line.

Listening to him online gives me hope although I do worry about who he's "mixing" with because he's lively, funny, seems to be able to direct play and work as a team. He laughs, which we haven't seen a lot of.

Anyway this afternoon, I've heard him reprimand whoever he's playing with for being racist and say "Oi, don't talk about your wife like that".

I mean obviously there's still plenty to be concerned about, but those things did my heart good.

He sounds really lovely, and I hope he continues to recover x

I have a teenager that had nearly broken my heart with his entitled and obnoxious attitude and complete lack of respect for anyone's property. This ranges from eating other people's treats (when specifically asked not to) to kicking a football around the house, drinking out of the carton, hiding dirty wrappers under cushions and basically being a twat. At a friend's house recently his little brother made a cup of tea and put it on a coffee table, an antique looking one. I wasn't in the room but overheard DS1 say 'come on man put a coaster under it. Your in someone's house for fucks sake'. My heart soared. I'm aware the bar is low!

I'm glad he's doing so well OP!

Yes, compared to the dreams I had for him, it's such a tiny thing, but it gives hope that it might turn out OK in the end.

That’s so great OP. It doesn’t matter what gets them dipping their toe in the water as long as he is moving forward. Online friends can be just as valuable in developing social skills and the confidence he must have to be able to call out someone like that!
