Good breakfasts for two year olds?

Hey all!

My nearly two year old loves to have a big bowl of fruit for breakfast (always with a cup of milk) but I want to move him into something more filling. He's starting nursery soon and won't be able to graze all morning like he does when he's home with me.

My husband is very anti-cereal because he sees it as junk so that's not an option (unless there are some good Child-friendly healthy options?). My son doesn't like eggs so that's not an option. He does like toast but he usually has bread with his lunch in some form (soup and bread, beans on toast etc) so I don't want him eating too much bread.

So I'm looking for some inspiration - what works well with your toddlers?

Thanks in advance!

Porridge with fruit
Plain yoghurt & fruit
Spinach & mozzarella muffins

My little one loves polenta with chopped cherry tomatoes & a bit of cheese on top

He is also not into eggs, but will eat pancakes or muffins baked with eggs.

I think porridge is vile warm slime 😂 but I love chilled overnight oats. Maybe try him with that if he isn’t keen on porridge? Hot milk and cold milk taste very different to me, he might prefer it cold. If it’s the texture he doesn’t like, he might like it made with fresh oats (not soaked overnight).

Jamie Oliver’s superfood chocolate porridge recipe is good.

Apple pancakes or banana pancakes, both with Greek yogurt.

Cheese (e.g. mozzarella), tomatoes, and ham. My DS used to like leftovers from dinner so sometimes he would end up having spaghetti bolognese Smile

Porridge with extras - fresh or frozen fruit mixed in, veg like carrot or courgette grated in, nut butters, ground nuts and seeds, dollop of yoghurt on top

Healthy cereals with no added sugar - weetabix, rice crispies, shredded wheat

Bagel with peanut butter or marmite

Homemade breakfast muffins/porridge fingers/banana pancakes with Greek yoghurt - keep batch in freezer and defrost when needed

Mashed avocado on sourdough bread

Sheet pancakes

Our go to is porridge (made in the Instant Pot so it's ready and waiting in the morning). We stir through frozen fruit before serving as well as ground flaxseed for a good dose of healthy fats

Will they be having breakfast at nursery? As it's usually always cereal there so it may be something you want to try before then! Weetabix tends to be pretty good.

Other non-cereal ideas:
Greek yoghurt with fruit
Banana pancakes
Crumpets/bagels
Porridge - different flavours maybe?

My DS loved Ready Brek.
