Acne scars help?? Anything on NHS?

My 16 year old has quite bad acne scarring from years of hormonal acne. We were referred to a dermatologist who wanted to put her on accutane (which probably would have not nothing as she has scars not spots) and could not do anything. She uses azaelic acid 20% but no real change. Her self-confidence is in the bin right now as shes having quite a tough time in other aspects as well. Microneedling costs a bomb!

I would suggest getting her to use a retinol as this can help with scarring and rebuild collagen. Go low and start slow, a couple of nights a week until around 6 weeks when using every night / other night as tolerated. Once that product is finished, go up a strength and build up usage.
Inexpensive option is the Ordinary, if you can afford it ho for Medik8 crystal retinal, start at 3.
Consistency and patience is the key here.
Also ensure she uses an SPF daily as retinol can make the skin more sensitive.
She could also microneedle at home. Ensure it's a good quality roller from a reputable brand. No cheap rubbish off amazon. Cleanse and clean the skin (hibiscrub) prior to use. Use a pair of disposable gloves. Don't put anything on the skin after. The needles only need to be 0.25 or 0.5, not too deep. It is tolerable. Use a clean pillowcase that evening. You can do this monthly. Works very well with using a retinol.

Appreciate I posted a dressings product, but silicone gel sheets are available at chemists/on line, and do seem to diminish scarring. It's available as a gel in a tube, which may be better for the face

Trained microneedling therapist and advanced facialist here (amongst other skin treatments)

I would advise against home microneedling

It is almost impossible to gauge the depth and this can lead to epidermal tears and further scarring

Micro needling is fantastic for acne scarring, iv had fantastic results . But Please go to a trained expert x
