At school the other week she said she felt dizzy like things getting dark she felt sick but quickly recovered and went back into class.

Otherwise all OK generally.

Does any recognise this or a sign of anything, deficiency maybe?

But she said quite often when standing up she feels dizzy

My older teenage DD had this a few times recently, turned out to be low iron.

Possibly low iron / low blood pressure. It’s unusual at such a young age but doesn’t necessarily mean anything is seriously wrong. I’d get the GP to check her iron.

DeliciousApples · 20/10/2024 19:13

Has she started her periods yet as that can make anyone feel like that.

Defo a check up at the doctor. Prob low in something in her blood causing her bp to drop.

EclipseoftheHeart1 · 20/10/2024 19:13

I did think iron I've started to give her a vitamin liquid with iron in it but I wonder how long it that would take to kick in.

Is she eating enough? I'm assuming she's just started secondary school is she actually eating breakfast and lunch? As that could make her dizzy if not.

junebirthdaygirl · 20/10/2024 19:18

I have been like this all my life. Low blood pressure. It's worse if l stand up quickly or jump out of bed too quickly. I need to take it in stages. If she has had a growth spurt recently it may be taking a while for her blood flow to adjust. I have a thing about iron in liquid form as l blame it for staining my teeth at that age but that was in the 70s so maybe they have remedied that by now. High iron food in her diet would help.

Pinkglitter1980 · 20/10/2024 19:21

I'd see a GP, request bloods, and keep diary of when it happens. I had this when younger and have now been diagnosed with Pots

EclipseoftheHeart1 · 20/10/2024 19:52

@Pinkglitter1980 thank you for this.

@junebirthdaygirl yes growth spurt but i thinking diet also whilst not poor could be better.

I try and get give her spinach daily however and avacado.
She has eggs once a week.

Low blood pressure, especially she's very slim
Low iron
Possibly POTs although the other two probably more likely.

WonderingWanda · 20/10/2024 20:11

Always had this from low blood pressure. Quite often fainted as a child / teen. Get dizzy spells now if I stand up too fast, especially from lying down.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/10/2024 20:23

Make sure she gets plenty of vitamin C too, as it helps with iron absorption

Delam · 20/10/2024 20:29

I get this when I’m dehydrated. I used to get it a lot as a teen. Could be as simple as making sure she’s drinking enough water.

MamaAndTheSofa · 20/10/2024 20:45

I've had this for years, since I was a young teen. Apparently it's caused by low blood pressure in my case. I've always felt it's worse if I'm dehydrated or tired. GP said it's not really anything to worry about; I've just had to get used to not jumping up too quickly.

Worth taking her to the GP to get bloods done and to get some advice.

EclipseoftheHeart1 · 20/10/2024 20:49

@WonderingWanda sorry didn't mean to tag you and it won't delete.
Definitely going to call doc

Now she says she feels slightly sick when standing around in art lessons!

Sustained standing can definitely be a problem. She could try fidgeting/clenching her calf and stomach muscles as a counter to the dizzy/nauseous feeling.
