How do you keep track of stitch numbers in crochet?

I am making an Attic24 blanket but my rows all end up different lengths, and wonky.

What is an easy way of tracking without excessive counting?

You could put a stitch marker or a paper clip into every 10th stitch (or whatever number works best for the pattern). That way, you only need to keep count of small chunks, and it’s easy to add up the stitches again if you lose count.

Thank you. If I do two chain stitches before starting a new row, where do you put the stitch marker?

Which pattern is it? I normally do ones which have repeats, the simplest being a granny cluster so it is easy to see where the end is. I think with experience you develop an eye for it too.

Hmmm. I've made a few crochet blankets. Usually you don't need to count really, as you are just going into the stitches or spaces etc on the previous row/round, so you just keep track of those iyswim.

Wrt the stitch markers if you decide to use them, I'd put one in the top (i.e. second) of your initial 2 chain, then another one in the top of your 10th stitch etc. You might not need one at the beginning of the row though, as you can tell it's the beginning!
