Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, in silence. The kittens are fed & have taken themselves off for a snooze somewhere. And no-one else is up, so I'm enjoying the peace and quiet 😊

I'm in need of a very slow & moochy day today. I' m a bit achey after being out Friday night for end of term drinks with colleagues, and last night to a friend's for tea and put the world to rights.

I've got some washing on, and a second load to go in, and will make a pie for tea 😋. If I get to it, I'll list some more things on Vinted.

Dd1 has her UCAS application in hand and will probably work on her personal statement some more, as well as finish any homework for the week.

Dd2's finished all her homework & wants to write some revision notes to join her ever-growing collection! We're supposed to be tidying her dressing table/desk and organising its drawers today too 🤔 I've told her I don't want to be doing it late!

Later on, I might run myself a bath I think & stew for a while with my book and a glass of wine - probably after everyone's showered. Then an early night ready for the last week of term.

What about all of you? 🙂

Well, after a lovely fortnight holiday, we're going to be doing a nerve-jangling drive through a storm to get home. Then just dealing with the mountain of laundry. Back to school and work tomorrow.

rubyslipperss · 20/10/2024 10:08

Staying in bed for as long as possible , venturing out tonight to local comedy club and rain lashing down so may just have easy day , telly and stew .

OldTinHat · 20/10/2024 10:23

Good morning!

I feel very 'squeaky'. Builder was in yesterday doing some plastering and everything and everywhere feels dusty, dry and squeaky. Even the dog feels squeaky.

So, when I can be arsed to stop scrolling and get out of bed and stop going down to the kitchen to pick at last night's leftover Korean takeaway from the fridge, I shall mop the floors again.

Doggo needs to go out for a walk/training (she's a rescue, 8yrs, awful history) - have any of you ever played fetch? I'm throwing the ball, she charges after it, round it, back to me. I then have to fetch the ball and rinse and repeat!

🤣 @OldTinHat she's clearly making sure you're getting some exercise too! Girl kitten likes to play fetch with a spring. She's very good at it & will happily spend hours galloping about fetching the spring back.

Morning all! DS and I were out at a play park/farm place all day yesterday so that DH could have an afternoon to himself to do whatever he fancied, so hes repaying the favour this morning. So far I've cleaned the house, changed the beds and on load two of laundry. Now having a coffee and a sit down with the dog before the next load finishes. Funny how his afternoon off was lunch out and a bike ride, mine is chores! Haha.

Later DS is having a sleepover with granny so will potter, maybe go out for our tea. Stormy and wet here so working out where I can go without getting soaked.

Peridot1 · 20/10/2024 10:52

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Miserable morning here so definitely not planning on going anywhere today.

I have been up quite a while ad had tea and porridge. Did some exercises for my back and some of the 100 push ups I’m doing every day this month. Emptied the dishwasher. Have a towel wash on. Need to decide what other household task will get done today.

Then I think it will be an easy day as we have a busy week with painters and builders etc in hopefully finishing our living room.

@Worriedaboutdoggo - hope dog is ok. We were at the vet with ours yesterday as she is showing signs of dementia. Love her to bits but my God she is being hard work at the moment.

@Butterflyfern - how exciting! Best of luck!

@Simonjt - that sounds painful! Hope you heal well and quickly. I had a tooth pulled this week and thought that was bad!

CleanShirt · 20/10/2024 10:56

It's almost 1pm here on Santorini - on my first solo holiday. I'm lying on the beach doing sod all and thinking about lunch 😊

Whattheduck · 20/10/2024 10:57

Going to have lasagne later and catch up on some tv programmes I’ve recorded
Have a nice day everyone

PurpleTinsel555 · 20/10/2024 11:09

Good morning! Slept like a rock last night, and finally dragged myself out of some wild dreams for a cup of coffee and a scroll of the news around 10, with the rain pelting on the windows. It was so cosy!

Currently on the way to yoga, while DP sees a film with his best friend, and then we’ll meet back at home for a chicken roast, a Sunday tidy and a scary film to wrap up our day.

Have a good one, all!

Iamnotaloggrip · 20/10/2024 11:11

Wet and horrible again here too. Took DS to park run this morning and went to the cafe after for a bacon and egg butty 😋. About to tackle the ironing pile. Will probably have a lazy afternoon. Chicken for dinner which I’m hoping DP will cook but let’s see…

Good luck @Butterflyfern!

OchreSwan · 20/10/2024 11:11

Good morning all! I’ve been up since about 9, which is quite late for me these days. Did a mini clean of the kitchen, have a wash going, and currently sitting with my second cup of coffee and my book. DP is still asleep.

Plans with family today have been cancelled due to illness, but we’ve had a very busy week and three late nights in a row, so I’m secretly quite pleased for the chance for a quiet day.

A few more chores to be done, including cleaning the bathroom and going to Waitrose for the weekly shop, but other than that it will mostly be relaxing! I’m hoping to get a good chunk of my book read, and we have a new board game that we want to teach ourselves how to play. Some sort of roasted veg for dinner and an early night I think!

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.

ProvincialLady24 · 20/10/2024 11:13

Morning all.
This weather is rubbish.

Had a nice slow morning with tea in bed.

Have done a load of washing and now on the second.

Taking DC to sport this afternoon.

Then to our friends for dinner.

mondaytosunday · 20/10/2024 12:11

I thought today was supposed to be dry a planned on a long overdue mowing but f the lawn but obviously did not read the weather forecast properly!
I've finished brunch and am trying to motivate myself to go upstairs and do some work. Then at 3 can stop come back down feed the animals and do some crocheting til dinner. DD has gone to uni this year so on my own now and day less structured.

StressedQueen · 20/10/2024 12:40

Afternoon!

We had an early breakfast together. One of my twins is at the library revising for her mocks coming up while the other is still at her friend's house after a sleepover. My son just left to go to London to hang out with his friends today. So it is just me, DH and our two youngest daughters. We were going to have a lovely day out today but the weather has not been cooperating so we're just chilling inside!!

We are going to my brother's house for a family dinner this evening so that is one thing to look forward to!!

Crunchymum · 20/10/2024 13:01

@Worriedaboutdoggo
I hope you got some good news about your dog.

@Butterflyfern eeeeekkkk, very exciting. Hope it all kicks off naturally for you. Is this your first?

Zippedydodah · 20/10/2024 13:11

Good (not) morning everyone, only just found you 🙄
I’ve had a lovely morning and just enjoyed a roast chicken dinner.
I finished an embroidery project this morning, it was bucketing down with rain so the dog flatly refused to step outside the door (her bladder capacity is astonishing!) so I prepped and cooked a chicken with roast potatoes and parsnips, cabbage, carrots, peas and broad beans and Yorkshire puddings. It was very nice 😊
I felt chilly so I have lit the wood burner and will probably spend the afternoon knitting. DH says he’ll walk the dog when it stops raining (supposed to be drying up mid afternoon), so a lazy day for me 😊

Girasoli · 20/10/2024 13:18

It's very wet here too. DC and I went to Mass and DH went to work. Now we are home and changed into dry clothing and there is oven pizza heating up for lunch. DS1 is watching football clips and DS2 is playing dinosaurs.

I quite like rainy inside days once in a while, I've got lots of laundry to put away and then this evening we'll do spellings/phonics and watch a movie (DS2 will probably be asleep). Poor DH will get home around DC bedtime but at least he's wearing his new waterproof so won't be cold.

DilemmaDelilah · 20/10/2024 13:25

Good morning @Zippedydodah and welcome to the home of the perfectly normal mumsnetters.
And to everyone else - I did go to Sainsbury's this morning, it's the last day of their 25% off clothes sale and I stocked up on my winter pyjamas. I'm watching an old episode of House at the moment and then I'm going to get into a new set of pyjamas and then I'm going for an afternoon nap. Shopping this morning wiped me out.

TheCatCameBack112 · 20/10/2024 13:33

Hi Sunday crew. Today I am taking it very easy. We were at a wedding yesterday so stayed up late, dancing and drinking wine. I didn't have that much to drink, although it was enough to do the lift from Dirty Dancing to Time of My Life 😂. Dh has random rib pain today, which I'm not sure is unrelated. He was snoring like a tank so I slept downstairs in the spare room with the cats.

I took some fruit toast and coffee back to bed, and then have been reading, mumsnetting and done some yoga. The house is tidy, so only a bit of laundry to do, and maybe some ironing later if I can be bothered. This aft we have F1 on and I'm writing up my travelogue from a road trip we took earlier this year. I am going to post it online when I've finished with some photos and route maps. I found it really useful reading blogs and trip advisor forums when we were planning.

I'm making pasta bake and bruschetta for dinner, then a bath and an early night this eve.

ssd · 20/10/2024 13:33

Hope you feel better soon @DilemmaDelilah , is it the dreaded new covid? Hope not!

Im off to ikea soon. Ds is moving out soon and i am so dreading it. It'll just be me and dh for the first time. And the ds's will be living far away. I'm actually dreading it.

Freemanhardyandwillis · 20/10/2024 13:36

Got flooded last night, clearing up the mess today. Fire brigade have just said we might have to evacuate still. No idea where to go. 😥

ssd · 20/10/2024 13:38

Im someone who never fitted in on mn, ive lived my life around my dcs since they were born. Ive always worked around them and put myself last. I have a job and friends and hobbies, but the kids come first,my kids are brilliant and have done so well. They are ready to fly and im happy for them. Im just sad its the end of an era.

Sorry to bring your thread down @lucysmam . I just feel i can be honest here.

DilemmaDelilah · 20/10/2024 13:49

@ssd no, sadly. I'm being treated for breast cancer. I have no evidence of disease (yaaay!) at present but I'm taking medication with some pretty horrible side effects to stop it coming back, hopefully. Only another 10 months to go..... In the meantime I'm a bit decrepit.

Pumpkittenspice · 20/10/2024 13:51

Good afternoon,

We’re having a lazy day today. I fed the cats and tidied up around the house.

I’m to order our Ocado food shop now and then watch the rest of Ludwig with DP.

Tarkan · 20/10/2024 14:02

PJ and TV day as I'm ill. DM texted me yesterday to say she had Covid and we started to feel ill at the same time so I think that's what it is. DH has it too so he's in bed. My gorgeous doggy is fast asleep on the sofa beside me.

I just had pizza for lunch, leftover from a takeaway last night so I chucked it in the air fryer to heat it up again. Tuna and prawn pizza which was really nice.

My 20yo is out visiting her boyfriend right now and 16yo has a part in the chorus of our local am dram panto (I'm also wardrobe mistress there) so it's a panto rehearsal night as long as the storm doesn't get bad again. I'm too ill to go down though so I've asked the eldest to be back before then as the 16yo is autistic and has anxiety and doesn't like going anywhere alone. They can fit a dog walk in together then at least too.
