Do I need to keep spare covers and towels for sickness bugs?

My son is 7 and never had one Shock

My daughter is on her second one, age 2.

The night is young and I've already used up most of my clean towels and long ago used up all her clean sheets!

Do I need to keep spares just for this then? What on earth do I do here, I've bung a load in the wash but the washer dryer setting takes hours!

I feel very unprepared! The first time my minimalist ways have let me down Grin

My parents used to keep a couple of ratty old sets of bedding and threadbare towels in a box on top of the wardrobe for use during illness and accidents.

The idea behind it was it wouldn't matter if things got stained or soiled past the point of cleaning them as they were already mostly ruined.

Depends how much you have?

We have 2 sets for adult beds and 3 sets for DD. We also have a spare duvet each and some spare pillows. We also have mattress/pillow protectors.

Towel wise we have 3 full sets, a few odd ones and 5 beach towels and haven’t used all of them with a bug yet but DD not very prone.

Our washer/drier can turn a sheet or two round in an hour or full a full load, 4hrs (wash and dry).

Hope it passes soon!

We can’t store huge amounts as have a small cottage but when we had a bigger house I didn’t keep tons more.

Sending solidarity. Currently up with my 20 month old who has it too. We've used so far 4 towels and 1 set of bedding. We've now employed a stacked towel system underneath him sleeping so any thing happens we just take the dirty ones off

My kids are 12 and 9 . Can’t remember many bugs and never needed towels sheets for this.

I have a friend who kept sleeping bags handy as it was easier than remaking a bed.

Hope your DD is over the worst.

Mine never go back into bed when they are puking.

It's on the sofa with towels / large muslins and buckets.

I also have a blow up mattress so I can sleep downstairs with them.

It's actually quite handy to be a bit of a hoarder in this situation (muslins are from when kids were young... some of said muslins are 12 years old now!!)

Yep pretty much a spare set of linen for this sort emergency. Immediately change out of their favourite bedding etc as sick sometimes stains your favourite linen. Towels perhaps fine on a hot wash.

Thank you. Another set miraculously on again before another vomit, admittedly not ironed!

Now setting up base on the sofa with towels and some throws that are really quick to dry thankfully

I am so amazed this is her second time with this, whilst her brother has never got it might slow the bugger down if he did Grin

Depends on the child. My dc1 would be sick everywhere, I'd have to sit with her watching like a hawk to present the bucket.

Dc2 I can leave with a bucket and he will use it and it'll all be very minimal mess.

I don’t iron bedding ever! Don’t iron anything….

Hope you have a less vomit filled day!

I guess they all have different strengths and weaknesses with their immune systems, DD rarely sick but has asthma and gets every respiratory infection going and at 5 has had multiple chest xrays. She also reacts badly to insect bites. But she’s not stomach bug prone. I think our slovenly ways help that 😂

Mine vary: I have one child who vomited constantly (and was quite good at sorting himself out) and one child who has reached the teenage years and never been sick. The others sat between those two extremes. If I knew they were ill, I’d layer up sheets and mattress protectors like the princess and the pea, and put fleece blankets on the bed. Easy to wash and dry; easy to whip off a layer each time it is puked on.
