2 year old hit by football

HOL2024 · 19/10/2024 22:19

My DS (6) was playing football with a friend (6) today when the little one got hit by the football in the tummy area. They were aiming for the goal but missed (he was stood to the side of the goal) He cried for a minute but then he seemed ok and has been ok since this was around 5pm.

But I can’t sleep as I keep checking on him - I’m worried that maybe I should have got him checked out. Would you have got him checked out?

Scutterbug · 19/10/2024 22:21

No I wouldn’t have taken him to be checked out for that. I’m sure he will be fine, it sounds like he soon forgot about it.

WiserOlderElf · 19/10/2024 22:22

No, I wouldn’t get my children checked out for being hit by a football. My middle child has played for a football team since the age of 6, being hit by a ball was/is a regular occurrence.

doodleschnoodle · 19/10/2024 22:22

No, it sounds like just a normal childhood bump.

No, I wouldn't have got my child checked for that.

FrogsLoveRain · 19/10/2024 22:24

He was also probably mainly crying due to shock rather than injury

purplebeansprouts · 19/10/2024 22:27

If you are worried call 111 they will ask you all the questions and then you'll feel reassured or get medical attention whichever is appropriate

BlackToes · 19/10/2024 22:30

No if he’s stopped crying he’s made a good recovery.

No. The OP doesn't need to ring 111 for that.

He cried for a minute then was fine. This was nearly 6 hours ago.

HOL2024 · 19/10/2024 22:35

I’m sure he’s fine as there is no mark on him and when touched he isn’t reacting to any sign of internal pain. Thanks for the reassurance though as you do hear horror stories.

LonelyLongDistanceRunner · 19/10/2024 22:36

Unless the ball was being kicked by Harry Kane, I’d say he was alright.

Hope he’s feeling better, must have been a bit winded poor little thing.

Littletreefrog · 19/10/2024 22:36

Probably just winded and a bit shocked. Pretty much a standard childhood occurrence and no need to worry.

getthosetitsup · 19/10/2024 22:40

When I was a young 'un, I took a football to the face while I was sat on a swing. Hurt like an absolute bitch, was like being punched. That was a teen footballer on the local youth team though, not a 6yo. I expect 2yo was just a bit shocked and winded.

HOL2024 · 19/10/2024 22:57

Hopefully all ok then - one more check before I try and switch off for the night.

OP posts:
Vanillalattecandle · 19/10/2024 23:05

What exactly are you worried about?
It seems like an over the top reaction to be so worried.
I dont think you need to be worrying but you can do 111 online but I don't know what you'd answer as there are no symptoms?
Try and rationalise your worries.

Fizxy · 19/10/2024 23:05

I'm sure they're absolutely fine. I don't think a 6 year old would be able to get enough force behind it to do any real damage. I think if they had been seriously hurt/caused any damage you'd know by now. My husband accidentally knocked my daughter off her feet once with a football when she was 2 (he missed the goal and it ricocheted and whacked her pretty hard 🙄) and she reacted the same way and was totally fine after the initial upset.

What are you checking for?

MonsteraMama · 19/10/2024 23:40

Unless the 6 year old kicking the ball was actually Ronny Heberson or part donkey, you need to chill. This is not the last time your kid will get injured in some way! He was probably winded for a second and then forgot about it. Driving yourself nuts by constantly "checking" isn't helping either, just relax. Kids get hurt. This kind of health anxiety though can rub off on them so do try to keep it in check.

Checking he is ok obviously, It’s bloody worrying being a parent.

I’m sure he’ll be fine OP, the tummy area is very soft and the ribs protect any thing important. My DD got hit by a football on the head at the same age by older kids and she was fine.

I know it is, I have 3 myself, 1 disabled. I just meant if he’s asleep, what is it that she’s checking?

111 or the online service will run her through to check if there's any concerning symptoms
