Relaxed casual wedding

Hi ladies,

I need help! DP and I agreed last night to get married. It was very grown up given we're both in our 40s, been together 8 years and own a house and 2 kids together. There was no big proposal or ring and I'm totally cool with that. I want the marriage, not the proposal or the wedding! However, he'd like a small do- about 40 people- and obviously it's up to him too. I can't stand being the centre of attention and don't even know where to start with planning a wedding. Can you share anything at all about having a really casual do, including what kind of venue, where to get a dress, how to make it about us and not everyone else? Basically anything you'd like to share.

Thank you so much

Where do you live and what do you like to do? I live by the sea, it's a working class town with a great sense of community and there are always local events going on. We are both very into fitness. I remember one early morning going for a swim in the sea before yoga by the beach. It was unexpectedly sunny but on cold days we just wrapped up. I got chatting to the woman beside me and she told me she was getting married later that day. She looked so happy and relaxed and I thought that's the way to do it. There is a local public house & gardens; she was getting married there with immediate family with an afternoon tea served then photos in front of the house followed by a dinner in their favourite local restaurant.

I remember thinking that is the way to do it.

Sounds a lot like my wedding! Been with my partner for 10 years and we got married last summer.
Registry office £350
Pre booked Taxis to take guests from the registry office to the reception £60
Wedding dress (Ralph Lauren cream off the shoulder maxi dress, £100 Tkmaxx)
Shoes also Tkmaxx £25
Husbands suit and shoes £150 Next
My hair and makeup £150
2 Dc., Son wore a suit, daughter a dress.. All from Vinted £100
Table decorations. Invites all made myself from craft shops... lots of ideas on Pinterest £75
We had our reception at a bar/ restaurant.
£150 to have a section of the restaurant to ourselves all evening and £50 per head for a three course meal (we had 35 guests) By the time the we'd all finished eating the restaurant had a band on (they even sung as a song so we got a first dance) and everyone hung around drinking until the bar closed at midnight. It was a late afternoon wedding and the timing worked out perfectly.
