Blinds - on their way out? Help!

I'm hopeless with interiors and it's taken me a long time to realise that wooden/PVC slatted blinds are/were popular.

Are they on their way out? This will probably need to last us till very old, would curtains be more timeless?

I meant plantation shutters.

I’ve got them, I love them. I don’t care. Just get what you like.

lovelyhat · 19/10/2024 12:54

I don’t like them myself but I totally agree with PP re getting what you like!

Plantation shutters were at their height 10 ish years ago. The fact that people still buy them shows they are very popular so unlikely to be disappearing any time soon. If you like them, have them, your home is (presumably) not for show and you should have the things that make you happy. If what's current makes you happiest, curtains are less expensive, although you still wouldn't want to replace decent ones regularly.

In my opinion plantation shutters are classic and will never go out of style. They are certainly better than net curtains, Roman blinds and whatever else is out there.

If you are a slave to fashion or what is "in" then search away.
Alternatively have what you like and works for you.😉
That said, I have not heard that blinds are on the way out.

We have internal shutters & curtains, could not care less what anyone else thinks as this combo works for us.

After 3 months of stressful attempts to find curtains for an awkward bay and then getting quotes that were shocking, we went for plantation shutters. Love them, never regretted that decision at all. They keep the heat in pretty well and look exactly the same as they did when we put them in 10 years ago.

I have blinds but replaced them in my bedroom as it feels much more softer with curtains, it also keeps the light out (and heat in), so I sleep much better. I still have them in the hallway and spare room/my office.

We have shutters everywhere except bedrooms, I love them. They make our rooms look lighter and brighter, and they're easy to clean.
Plus you can easily control how much they're open/ closed, so on a bright sunny day I can tilt just one shutter to block out the blinding sunshine

I think plantation shutters are classic, I see lots on the Instagram home accounts!

If you have UPVC windows, look for Perfect Fit shutters or blinds - I have perfect fit Venetians and they are fab.

No not a slave to fashion, but it would be stupid to do something that devalued the house.

I don't think your choice of window dressing will affect the value of the house.

PortiasBiscuit · 19/10/2024 15:39

Everyone round here is having them fitted, it’s like some sort of house rash. We are in the East Midlands though so probably about 20 years behind the cutting edge of fashion.

Of course it would.
