Things to do in Skipton

I've got a morning by myself in Skipton next weekend while DP and DD do a Land Rover driving thing somewhere nearby.

I'm assuming Skipton is nice so happy just to explore but if anyone has recommendations, that would be great.

There is a radio 4 comedy series called “mark steel is in town” and he’s done one about skipton. Might be worth listening to?

If your DD has a spare hour go to Billy Bobs for lunch! I would recommend Skipton castle and just having a stroll around town, it’s such a pretty town with lots of nice bakery’s and interesting independent shops.

There’s a castle, if you like that kind of thing, and plenty of nice cafes.

Visit the castle - expensive for what it is, but worth a look.
If the weather's good, you can walk through the woodlands by the castle (free) where there are some interesting sculptures.
There are boat trips along the canal.
Some nice independent shops and several charity shops if you are a bargain hunter, including Oxfam Bookshop
The street market is on the high street more days than not so you'll probably catch it.

Castle obviously. But expensive for what it is. No furnished rooms - just the shell.
The Parish Church is really interesting - and free.
If the weather is good you can walk along the river alongside the castle walls. Beautiful.
Lots of outdoor shops and places to eat.

There is a recently refurbished museum at the old town hall - very compact and worth a visit. across the high street Alexander's cafe is beautiful. Nearby are an old fashioned sweet shop and a small cloth shop if you like sewing. All these are towards the top of the high street near the castle and parish church. Enjoy!

Thank you - these all sound good.

Do buy yourself a 'rapscallion' from a bakery if you get the chance - somewhere between a rock bun and a scone, with lots of dried fruit - delicious, I always get one to nibble by the canal.
