I've just finished my first cuppa of the day, sat with dd2 while she had breakfast. Girl kitten woke me up for breakfast at 6:30 ish but I ignored her until 7:30 🙈. They're now fed & galloping about upstairs while dd2 chats away to them about how noisy they're being 🤣

Dd1's up too. Not happy about it, but she's up.

The girls are off to the open day at dd1's college, with one of dd2's friends, so the younger girls can start looking at their A Level options.

I'm going to have a steady start to the day, some washing, washing up...normal housey stuff, then get a shower since I came straight in to bed last night & am out again this evening at a friend's house for a moan & rant (they know that's what I want).

My friend's cooking so I'll be having whatever she makes (she makes the best chips!). Not a clue what tea will be here - probably pasta knowing the girls 🤣 .

What about all of you? 🙂

I've been to the supermarket, and while choosing tomorrow's dinner I found a whole chicken with yesterday's date on it. Handed it to a passing member of staff who looked both horrified and grateful in equal measure.

I'm now hoping it will stop raining later on so I can go to the local garden centre and have a look round their reduced section.

DH has been practicing some classical guitar piece, thankfully upstairs so I didn't have to listen to it, and we are now drinking coffee.

GameOfJones · 19/10/2024 11:22

Good morning everyone!

I had a lazy morning and had a lie in until 9am, DH got up early with DDs. It'll be his turn for a lie in tomorrow.

I've had two coffees and supervised homework while DH has been vacuuming. I've just got out of the shower and am taking DD2 to her friend's birthday party later. DH and I also want to go to the local bathroom showroom as we are having our downstairs bathroom refitted. It is about 35 years old and in dire need of being done! I'm trying not to think about the cost and choosing to be excited instead as it needs doing.

Later I'm going round to my friend's house to share a bottle of wine and have a good catch up which I'm really looking forward to. Not sure what dinner will be yet. Or lunch for that matter! I think it's a "fend for yourselves" day.

Shergill15 · 19/10/2024 11:36

Morning @lucysmam and everyone. Lie in here as we're officially on half term now. It's the first Saturday in a while we've not had plans, which I'm loving, along with not having the usual rush to sort uniform/sport kit/battle through maths homework! Breakfast was strawberry crepes and a latte. Going to have a pottering at home day today - DD's coat is filthy from Forest School so needs washing and reproofing. Whole house needs a tidy so will try to make some headway today in-between regular coffee breaks, really enjoying the book I'm reading so that might win over the housework. Picked up some lovely bread and cheese at the farm shop yesterday so that will be lunch, no idea about dinner! Strictly this evening for me, DD not really interested so she'll probably play on her tablet whilst it's on (she does like Chris and Montell though so might watch their dances)

Purpleroseofbiro · 19/10/2024 11:42

Been to the gym and am now home showered and relaxing with a cuppa before my husband gets home from golf to make lunch (mushrooms with blue cheese on toast). No real plans today, maybe go for a walk as its currently sunny and then finish my book perhaps. Making homemade veggie burgers for dinner and have made ginger spiced chocolate fondants which I will serve with some nice vanilla ice cream for pudding. Then we'll watch a movie later. Was due to be meeting a friend tomorrow but looks like we'll be hit with the worst of Storm Ashley so will probably rearrange for another weekend.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

RainbowWife · 19/10/2024 11:45

Morning everyone!

Bright and sunny in my corner of Scotland, although we're on amber wind warnings tomorrow so considering taking down the halloween decorations outside.

Off for lunch with grandma shortly which is always nice. Have spent the morning in bed with my laptop and coffee while DW walked the dogs!

Need to pop to Aldi to pick something up for tea.

WillowtreeHouse · 19/10/2024 11:45

I have a day to myself today. I'm going to bake a birthday cake, make a shepherd's pie, do some tidying and that's about it. Prawn stir fry for dinner and a night watching telly on the sofa. Lovely.

Chelsea26 · 19/10/2024 11:48

@RabbitsRock probably about 500ml - I cover the orzo by about a fingertip and then stir and check every so often and add more if it’s drying up and not yet cooked. 😊

FayKnights · 19/10/2024 11:50

Morning (just) @lucysmam and the lovely Saturday gang!
I’ve just finished a bit of a blitz, more to do, but it’ll keep. I need to get showered and out for a friends birthday.
The youngest has his theory driving test this afternoon, so hoping he passes, he has been lots. His actual driving lessons start next week.
I still can’t drive at 47, so really keen for my lads to all get it under their belt early

Have a great day all!!

Iamnotaloggrip · 19/10/2024 11:52

Morning all. It's been wet here this morning so DS and I have cleaned his room, then I've just done an exercise class. Will shower and make lunch. DD is at a party this afternoon so might end up taking her there. Will try to encourage homework getting done as well.

Cottage pie for dinner then something on the telly tonight.

I'm also going to give that Tuscan chicken a go this week - thanks @Chelsea26!

Natsku · 19/10/2024 12:01

I dropped my mum off at the train station this morning, she's been visiting for the week. Now I'm about to watch my DD's volleyball match, then go home and have something quick to eat then take DS to watch the local ice hockey match. Busy day today.

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/10/2024 12:05

Washing’s done and out. I’ve ironed a few bits too.

We’re very bad tempered over yet another house sale delay. Nine months and counting. I am so over it all now. Why do they always tell you things on a Friday at 4.30, when everyone’s finishing up for the weekend?

Need to try and cheer up.

Giggorata · 19/10/2024 12:11

Good morning (ish) lucysmam and all.
I have been to the market for some fruit and vegetables and done some laundry. By the looks of it, I will need to hang it all up in the boiler room.

I had plans to go out with a friend this afternoon but she doesn't feel up to it, so I will clean out the small sitting room and, with much trepidation, take down the Chimney Sheep, (the wool thingy that blocks up the chimney).
I'm hoping that a shower of twigs, dead jackdaws and spiders don't come tumbling out.
Then I will light the first fire of the season and settle with my book.

Later this evening I am meeting with my coven. DH is going shopping and will bring back some wine and grub for me to take, always a surprise. I think he sublimates his hunting instinct into shopping for bargains, so I never quite know what we're getting.
He will have the left over lamb this evening and then meet with his pub cronies.

piscofrisco · 19/10/2024 12:37

Good (just about) afternoon

I've been to work for 4 hours 7-11 covering on call as lots of people are off with covid (it's really rearing its head again here).

Took the puppy into the office which cheered us all up.

Trying to think of something to do with dss's this afternoon- they were meant to be at their cousins this weekend but for various reasons couldn't go. It's chucking it down so everything is booked solid. Both of them are being grumpy and frankly getting on my last nerve. So for once I'm quite glad I'll be stuck in the house with the Puppy.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 19/10/2024 12:55

I'm having a very lazy day so far. I didn't get up until well after 11 so I'm a bit off kilter. In my defence I've been nightshift
I have a massage this afternoon so I really need to get showered and dressed but other than doing a food shop I'm having the laziest of lazy days

DilemmaDelilah · 19/10/2024 13:48

Ah! There you are @lucysmam . I had a lovely lie in this morning, then made Delia's delicious sultana tea bread/cake before having a bacon sandwich for lunch. I'm currently watching the film Persuasion on the telly while waiting for the cake to cool enough to eat with butter and a cup of tea later on. Nothing much planned for later - DH has a work reunion this evening so we're not having anything particular to eat this evening. He may eat out, I may have cheese and crackers.

I've not been particularly well this last week so we don't have anything planned. We have 2 weeks off Cathedral chorister picking up duties as it's half term so no late evenings next week or the week after, and no weekend duties for 3 weekends. It's ramping up for Christmas though, so there will be more, and later, evening pickups in the second half of term.

Latenightreader · 19/10/2024 13:51

I've just survived my daughter's sixth birthday party at a ten pin bowling place. I was far more anxious than I should have been! They all had a lovely time.

Crunchymum · 19/10/2024 18:35

Super late to the thread today. Hope everyone has had a good Saturday!!

Had swimming this morning and then we to swap our library books.

Home for lunch and then DC1 had some friends over for gaming afternoon, DC2 had a party and DC3 has some extra tuition (I then took DC3 to the party after as she was also invited so she did have some fun bless her!!)

Ordered pizza's for the DC1 and friends but there is loads left over so I'm indulging now with some salad and humus (girls has hot dogs and nibbles at the party so don't need dinner!)

Waiting for the gaming lads to head off and then it will be PJ's all round.

Will watch an episode of Dexter after the kids are in bed but can't wait for bed myself.

Chelsea26 · 19/10/2024 21:16

@lucysmam @Iamnotaloggrip @onlyhereforthechristmaschat

just finished our dinner - made it as per the recipe I wrote and it was nice but bland.

As discussed I’m not a measurer and it’s normally different every time but after discussion with the family I would say smoked paprika not normal, a squirt of tomato puree and perhaps a sprinkle of chilli flakes if you like it hot. Was still nice and clean plates all around but I want you to really enjoy it!

Iamnotaloggrip · 19/10/2024 21:41

Noted @Chelsea26, thank you! I think I have all those anyway so will experiment!

Freemanhardyandwillis · 19/10/2024 21:50

I posted earlier but things have changed! Now waiting to see if we need to be evacuated from a flash flood. Kids can't get home from friend's house as we are cut off. Shit! Trying to pack an emergency bag in the dark and wishing I had followed the preppers' threads more closely. 😫

DilemmaDelilah · 19/10/2024 22:16

@Freemanhardyandwillis I really hope things get better for you rather than worse. It's lucky the kids aren't with you - imagine having to evacuate them as well! Be safe.

MoneyTalksBSWalks · 19/10/2024 22:37

Spent an hour doing some financial stuff online.
Dropped half a car load of books and bric a brac at a charity shop.
Went for shopping and for coffee and cake with my future daughter in law.
Went out for a stroll with DH and to buy a bag for future DIL who had admired it when we were out earlier as a Christmas gift.
Cooked salmon for dinner and then watched TV.

Applemayjune · 19/10/2024 22:38

I did a silent disco walk round Manchester in the afternoon. It was great fun.

Then I watched smile 2 in the evening
