Ladybird help!! (Pic)

In my spare bedroom there's a current invasion of presumably hibernating ladybirds- they've come in through the window frame even though the window is closed. That window does need replacing though, which would probably solve the problem, but in the meantime...

The ladybirds are marching across the walls and ceiling and congregating in the corner of the ceiling, as in my picture. How can I safely remove them and where should I rehome them? They can't stay there because I'm going to repaint the ceiling and coving soon.

The walls have been recently done, and are white. I don't want any squashed ladybirds staining them!! Also I have a white voile blind at said window, which is also vulnerable to ladybird residue...

I don't want to kill them or hoover them up, please help!

Can you put a glass under them and bump them into it using a sheet of paper?
Then relocate to a shed or something?

MokaEfti · 18/10/2024 12:46

Yes was thinking of something similar - only want to make one journey though.... anyone know how long til they stop coming?? It's an incessant influx ...

I would just try to move them all to the shed.

Apparently there can be thousands that come together to hibernate!

Can you block where they're coming on somehow? Even if it's just temporary like wet tissue or something. If you can put a halt to it then you can deal with the ones you've got.

Katisha · 18/10/2024 13:01

They'll just keep coming. Get this every year!

Goatblu · 18/10/2024 13:13

I only have one phobia - and this is it. I noticed several on the windows yesterday (recently moved house) and I'm bloody terrified in case they find a way in.

I know it's totally irrational but they terrify me. When do they die off? Or don't they?

AutumnalNamechange · 18/10/2024 13:20

As pp have said, brush them all into a container and relocate somewhere dry like the shed. Can you get some filler and fill in around the window where they’re getting in? You need to do that first really.

Ladybirds are really good for gardens so try not to harm them (I say that as someone who really doesn’t like them as they always bite me for some reason 😆)

Leniriefenstahl · 18/10/2024 13:27

Are they real ladybirds or the harlequin ones which are pests ?

MokaEfti · 18/10/2024 13:28

@Leniriefenstahl they are the bad ones... is that license to kill?

Ok so if they're just going to keep coming I will close the window and search for gaps. I stupidly thought let them all in as quick as possible and then move them, but it sounds like they will not stop coming....

Are they the ones that release that awful smell if you touch them ? Think they are harlequins which are not native (I think !)….I happily throw them out of the window tbh. Can’t bring myself to squash them.DP is a gardener, he can 😂
