Washing liquid and fabric conditioner recommendations please

Has anyone got any recommendations please? I'd prefer to use a non bio washing liquid and looking for something that cleans reasonably well and smells good, say 2-3 weeks later.

I'm currently a little bit addicted to Tallow and Ash, gorgeous scents, but not overpowering.

Neveranynamesleft · 19/10/2024 14:48

I just use supermarkets own brand, never had any complaints about any that I've used and they are a lot cheaper than the branded ones. Gave up on fabric conditioner a while ago, haven't noticed any difference and realised it's a waste of money. Each to their own.

M&S laundry liquid is my favourite at the moment.

BetterCare · 19/10/2024 14:51

I second Tallow and Ash they have so many different options and they smell amazing. You can buy tester samples to see which ones you like. I also saw an announcement that the brand is going to be on sale in some of the bigger supermarkets.

Wilton of London is also really lovely, sadly my Tesco has stopped selling it so I have to buy on line.

I have started to use some Ineos products as well.

Ecover non bio and Ecover fabric softener

BuzzieLittleBee · 19/10/2024 14:53

I use Smol. They come on subscription and I love them. They clean really well, and I love that I just never have to think about buying washing liquid.

Fabric conditioner is all marketing! There's no actual need for it at all. It makes your clothes softer for about the first 5 seconds of wearing them. It's just coating your clothes in chemicals, making them smell, being environmentally damaging and costing money.

I use the Aldi own brand for both detergent and conditioner - it came out top in Which? testing and it's also about half the price of anything else.

I do switch the conditioner around every so often as otherwise I stop smelling it.

Persil non bio
I also use Fairy Outdoorables conditioner. Only a splash as very hard water
It has a gentle but lasting scent

fussychica · 19/10/2024 17:11

Aldi powder, disappointed they stopped selling the powder in tablet form but I've got use to the straight powder.

purplebeansprouts · 19/10/2024 17:13

Persil non bio

coffeesaveslives · 19/10/2024 17:17

Tesco own brand.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 19/10/2024 17:27

Tallow and Ash, duvet day, celestial and oud are my favourites.

tedgran · 19/10/2024 17:32

Persil non bio, never use conditioner, they always smell horrible, clog up machine as well.

DappledThings · 19/10/2024 17:40

What actually is the point of fabric conditioner? Do people genuinely put their clothes on and find they feel a bit rough and need to be made to feel softer? I've never experienced that and never understood why people buy it.

Lifestooshort71 · 19/10/2024 17:50

I use supermarket own brand liquid - never use powder after engineer showed me the stuff clogging up the pipes. Never use conditioner (for the same reason) but put a glug of cheap white vinegar and of Zoflora in the drawer (the orange one smells gorgeous and the lavender). I'm not bothered about washing smelling nice for 2 weeks - in fact it would probably put me off a product!

sueelleker · 19/10/2024 17:56

I use Fairy non-bio, which gives a good clean at 40C; and Lenor Outdoorables conditioner. 2-3 weeks seems a long time for the fragrance to last though?

Craftysue · 19/10/2024 18:06

Another vote for smol- they clean really well and the smell is not overpowering. They normally offer free samples on their website if you want to try a couple

gocompare · 19/10/2024 18:12

The green kitra on amazon.

BourbonsAreOverated · 19/10/2024 18:17

I didn’t get on with tallow and ash, thought it was rubbish at washing and the smell didn’t last long.
Wilton is lovely
when work pay
aldi is great for washing and lidl fabric softener is great.

Cuppachuchu · 19/10/2024 18:17

M&S. I use the bio one for colours.

Xiaoxiong · 20/10/2024 10:42

@DappledThings I dry my clothes on a ceiling airer and they get quite stiff and scratchy - I don't need conditioner IF I am willing to iron all my clothes once they're dry (or I tumble dry), but I discovered that a half cap of conditioner in the wash means the clothes dry soft enough to wear without ironing or tumbling.

One day when I have time to iron - or send ironing out - then maybe I won't use conditioner!

mewkins · 20/10/2024 10:50

Aldi washing liquid. I don't use softener.

CrushingOnRubies · 20/10/2024 10:50

Another vote for smol- I think we use most of it not all of their range.

Feels quite sustainable in that the containers are reusable plastic or metal. And they are posted in cardboard

Northoftheterritory · 20/10/2024 10:52

Nothing is going to last for 2/3 weeks with the best will in the world
