Ex wants to get ds a phone

Ex wants to get ds a phone. Ds can barely read or write he struggles with 3 letter words

He can probably voice note I guess . But his father has no understanding what so ever of his educational needs. And will probably message ds and ds won't be able to read it and then ex will say something along the lines of oh you can read that it's not hard.

He's always been in denial about ds autism and learning difficulties. I stopped showing him reports because he would through tantrums.

To be fair ds will probably want a phone once he's in year 6 so it will still be the same concerns anyway

Let him buy him a phone but you have parental control over it and his safety. Simple.

Sorry, I made an assumption based on your post that you are the primary parent and have full custody, your ex has him occasionally, therefore not knowing his needs. I apologise if I have that wrong.

If I'm correct and that that is the case, allow him to buy DS a phone, but you set it up, you set the parental control which allows what, when and how long he can access the phone

I think your misunderstanding me. I know ex /me can set up parental control thsts not the issue... the issue is DS can't read /write he struggles with 3 letters. And his dad has always denied ds has any difficulty so will likely message ds . ds won't be able to read it. Then ex will question ds. And probably make him feel shit

You can use voice to text for messages and there is a setting for messages to be read out loud so you don't need to be able to read or write to use a phone.

It might be good for him to get used to using voice notes/ text to speech. He can always ask you to check it for him if he wants to. Text to speech is getting a lot better on devices these days.

Would DS even be bothered by it anyway?

Who is throwing tantrums ds or the father?

KizzyDora · 17/10/2024 18:27

There all loads of accessibility functions you can enable on a iPhone-text to speech/speech to text, font enlargement, display colour changes. You can also set up the iPhone with a simplified interface for those with cognitive disabilities.

The father . As in comments like you should be able to read /write things like that by now. But if ds can write/read via voice maybe it will be ok.

Thank you that's great to know. Don't feel so worried now.
