Transfering credit card balance onto just 0% card - questions / advice please?

I need to accumulate all my debt onto one card preferably 0%
Is this possible? Or would I have to open 3 separate or 2 may be new 0% cards?

I have 3 credit cards with balances of:
£3,000, £1,000 and £1,700

I want to just have all the debt in one place so I can pay off.

Any suggestions how I do this please?

1 card is on 0% till March so I could keep that

The other 2 I could put on a new 0% card
So at least I will have 2 cards instead of 3!

You could try MBNA. There's a quite an important difference between credit card transfer and money transfer. I can't remember though what it is

It will depend on your credit history but try the MoneySavingExpert credit card application tool - I think it's a "soft" application that won't show up on your credit record.

Depends what credit limit you get.

Another option is to take out a 0% purchase card and using it for all purchases then maximising what you have to pay off the others quickly.

You need to be disciplined and not overspend though.

You can usually transfer multiple balances to the same 0% card, as long as you have a high enough credit limit (ie 6k) and you make the transfer by the deadline stated.

You can't transfer from/to the same card provider, so the new card would to be different to the existing ones.

I do this all the time. I think I go to money supermarket (it's purple themed) and do a comparison. I fell foul recently and had to apply for two credit cards - if you have a loan you want to pay off you need a money transfer. You can't pay debt with debt and I didn't realise until I tried to pay it off. If you have a credit card you want to pay off then balance transfer.

On the comparison quote you put in how much you want or need and they have some pre approved (though they might be pre approved at a lesser amount so watch for that), some very likely and others not so. It gives all vital info like interest free period and interest thereafter.

Some of them are crazy. I have three at the minute (would have two but my fuck up meant 3) and I'm interest free for 28 months and the other is interest free on balance and purchases for 19 months. Virgin have always been good to me but you don't receive approval for a few days.

But word of warning, don't be like me and keep growing the debt with each balance transfer.

I'm really trying to get myself sorted @MoreCardassianThanKardashian but things unexpected that is keep creeping up - car needed 2 new tyres and then my DH car needed a new exhaust, then the boiler broke had to have an engineer out. Took all our money. Then needed petrol in 2 cars and food shopping so all went on credit cards. Then DS needed some sports equipment which again went on cc. Never ending.

Anyway, I'm on it now so will pay off and try not to use, although Christmas is coming up!

UPDATE
Right here's what Im thinking @MoreCardassianThanKardashian you might be able to help.

  1. £1,700 and £1,000 - transfer onto another 0% card Ive found (interest will be around £50)
  2. Keep £3,000 on current card (Virgin) as on 0% interest for another 6 months - then move onto 0% card

Sound like a plan?

Yep, completely understand. The way I see it, it will be paid off eventually. As long as it's manageable. Mines quite high (12k) but the interest free min payment is only £130/40. It started off as £3k and £30 😂😂😂

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 17/10/2024 15:23

Yes and no! I'd see if I can get all on to one card. Six months comes before you know it. One payment. Cut up the card. I have a daily credit card as well as my transfers. That's the one that gets me in trouble so don't keep any - or genuine emergencies only. Not a sale at Pandora.

CornishTeaTime · 17/10/2024 15:36

@MoreCardassianThanKardashian yeah you're right will make it much easier to have it all on one card! Found one at 29 months 0% but fee is £200 but in the grand scheme of things £200 is nothing - Im £6k in debt but hopefully will just keep paying it all off in time over the 29 months.

Thanks for your help really has put all these do I do this, do I do that messages in my head into perspective!

Soooo annoying - Applied to put all on one card and it will only let me do £4k (needed £6,600) when I did the check I put in the full amount and it came up so now I will have to apply for another card so annoying!

OP posts:
MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 17/10/2024 17:20

That is annoying. Put what you can on the one and then either pay as much off the one that's safe for 6 months and/or transfer that one then. I've just checked my statement for one I have that was £5974 and it was £209 in transfer fees if that makes you feel better 😀
