Should I shave my head?

I have long hair but have got really tired of it and want a change. I was watching V for Vendetta and thought how good a shaved head looks so I’m thinking about doing it. Has anyone else done this? TIA

Yes I did it twice during lock down. Loved it

Did you go from long? And what grade is suitable ?

I went from a bob to a grade 4 during lockdown, I’m growing mine again now but the shortest I got to was grade 1.

I’d go down gradually and see what you like. And make sure you have some warm hats.

It's quite extreme and you may get some negativity around it because for some people it is an act that denotes mental distress.

If you can handle that and you're in a workplace that doesn't have rules against it, go for it.

EngineEngineNumber9 · 17/10/2024 12:34

Do you have Natalie Portman’s face? 😁

I’m kidding! I’d go for it. It’s hair, it grows back. I once went over the course of two days - long, cut it into a chin length bob myself, then did a grade 3 on the sides and chopped the top into a messy pixie. Have never done shaved all over.

macshoto · 17/10/2024 12:38

Completely shaved is very striking.

DW has had me cut hers to a No.3 since Covid - but that is a long way from shaved - and she wasn't that long-haired immediately before this - though she has gradually gone from mid-back length via various lengths of bob to No.3 now.

First person I thought of when I saw this thread was Sinead O'Connor... edition.cnn.com/style/sinead-oconnor-buzzcut-history/index.html

No 1 for me, but it was summer so I had to wear a hat so I didn't burn my scalp. Same in winter though, it gets a bit nippy round the ears. I now usually have no 1 sides and back and no 3 on top for sun protection/warmth. If you take it all off, be prepared for people to think you're having chemo.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 17/10/2024 13:20

It feels wonderfully soft & furry. I always want to rub my head when I’ve shaved.

AutumnLeaves24 · 17/10/2024 13:32

Personally I wouldn't.

mainly because my head has corners! I'd look like someone had rested a box on a snowman. Not attractive!

Attelina · 17/10/2024 13:33

No. Google Britney Spears having a melt down. You'll get constant comments.

InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom · 17/10/2024 13:36

I wouldn't do it because I would look like a thumb.

My dd has done this a few times though, she decides to grow her hair, then she can't be arsed anymore so she just shaves it to a number 1.

EveryKneeShallBow · 17/10/2024 13:40

I did it in lockdown and then had an extreme pixie until of course my mood changed and I grew it again. I might do it again.

TapToSkip · 17/10/2024 13:43

I did it one year in October and my head was fucking freezing all winter.

Singleandproud · 17/10/2024 13:44

Would it suit your overall style?

I think fully shaved only really the suits the very young, or those of a healthy weight and fab at make up otherwise it makes you look a bit thumb like.

I wouldn't go from long to shaved it's too big of a jump - and you never know how lumpy your head actually is - although I guess it's winter soon so you can wear a hat for most things. Perhaps short and choppy below chin first to give you a break from the long hair, then a pixie, then shaved.

But ultimately hair is hair and it'll grown back. I would evaluate my MH if I were you before I went for such a drastic change. Is it robust or are you struggling / are you coming out of a big event and trying to shred your former identity and develop a new one? - Or are you absolutely fine and just fancy a change as you said in your OP? By no means do you need to justify yourself here but have a good think first.

Sunpill · 17/10/2024 13:46

I’ve done it a couple of times, didn’t get constant comments, if you hate it, it grows back and if you really can’t stand it wigs and or hat are an option.

Maddy70 · 17/10/2024 13:48

Shave it but leave some length a little longer on the top otherwise unless you have the perfect shape head. You run the risk of looking a bit like a match stick

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 17/10/2024 13:57

Why not do an undercut, then a mohawk, then full skinhead... might as well play with it while it comes off!
Do some fun colours too - you can bleach the hell out oh hair if you intend to chop it off!
And, it's winter. you can always wear a hat

Coralinedest · 17/10/2024 14:58

Yes sorry I don’t mean fully bald, I meant a buzz cut. And don’t worry I’m not having a mental breakdown🤣
