What’s with the amount of names on here like mine?

(which I made up especially for this thread). Adjective + adjective + animal format. Is there a random name generator people are using, is it all the same person, is it a ‘thing’ I’m unaware of?

OP posts:

Surely it's just an obvious way to make up a unique and amusing name, largepinkpanther, crazypatchworkelephant, teadrinkingtiger, obviouslysmallmouse - see it's easy. Yeah I know I didn't actually follow your format in all instances.

Can't say I've noticed it myself

A lot of sites have a "suggested names" section for when signing up as a lot of people struggle to think of names.

A site wants people to sign up as they need users, but people are more likely to stop part way through registering and leave if there is any friction. Adding a random name generator is a good way to get people to continue on registering - they can always change it later if they don't like it.

I know I've just left a site mid registration and never gone back if the sign up process was too much of a faff.

Is it common? I haven't noticed

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/10/2024 09:57

Erm.

Mine’s a Harry Potter reference.

That is the invisible adjective hierarchy that exsists in the English language.

Opinion-size-age-shape-colour-origin-material-purpose-noun.

You you can have a 'lovely little old rectangular green french silver whitleling knife'. But if you mess with that word order you'll sound like a maniac.

I’ve noticed this a lot. Mostly on threads where the OP comes out with a controversial statement, then is never to return.

Let me try….

It’s an old little french silver whittling green rectangular lovely knife.

Oh, yes, that does sound a bit off! Grin
