People who went to boarding school, when did the tradition of doing the seniors' chores end?

Spoke to a (very) elderly relative recently who was talking about how they were called upon by students in the topmost form to do their chores. Brought me back to all the Enid Blyton books, and multiple other books set around or before the Mallory Towers/St. Clare's era where it was common to have a 'slave' (their words not mine) from the lower school. This obviously doesn't happen anymore, so I'm wondering when this whole thing phased out? Or was it still happening up until recently in certain boarding schools?

Well, I was at boarding school in the late 80's and we didn't have to do chores for seniors. Different age groups had different responsibilities such as setting tables, ringing the bells to wake everyone up and helping with laundry, but definitely nothing like you're describing!

Not when I went, 1987 onwards.

It was optional in my DH's senior school in the 80s and you got paid if you chose to do it.
