I've worn dailies for years, don't wear them every single day, sometimes wear glasses
I'm thinking of switching to monthly/fortnightly ones to save money?
What would I need to buy alongside them, I seem to remember years ago my friend having a bottle of some king of saline and a little pod to put them in when not wearing but don't know if that's still a thing ?

I used dailies that I buy from daysoft for around £18 a month

I have dailies as I found the monthlies were ending up more expensive (boots stopped sending me solution and so I was paying the same price but getting less!).

I vary my dailies, so at the moment I get sent 30 pairs per month but do save these up, I've got a month's supply in sort of backdated lenses if that makes sense?

You have a pot which has two sides for right and left eye which you store the lenses in with some contact lens solution overnight.

I swapped from dailies a couple of years ago as it’s so much more environmentally friendly and it took some adjusting to but it’s just normal now.

Are you up to date with your lens check ups? If you’re switching you should go through your optician so they can check your eyes can handle it. You may be better with a silicone hydrogel which allows more oxygen to the eye if not on one already and the fit / material might not be right for you so don’t just do it yourself.

Yes, you need a bottle of solution and a case, I buy mine in Sainsburys and they come together, it's about £4 and lasts me probably 4-6 weeks. You need to let the case dry out completely in between uses i.e. when you are wearing the lenses.

I pay £16 a month for my monthlies with Specsavers which gets me the solution and pots, and a discounted pair of glasses once a year or something.

Contact lens solution, left and right pots and a saline solution too.

SunnyDaySummer · 16/10/2024 13:10

In my experience the solution comes with a case, and saline is not necessary so it probably depends on the brand (mine is for extra sensitive eyes but if you’ve been ok with wearing dailies straight out of the pack you probably wouldn’t need this).

I don’t think they work out cheaper unfortunately. There is always a bit of wastage where maybe twice a year you drop a monthly one on the bathroom floor on day 2, or you break it taking it out of its pack, and that cuts out any overall saving.

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 16/10/2024 13:33

My solution comes with a case and I've never used saline. Yes to the wastage if you lose a monthly but the optician tweaks my prescription fairly frequently and I keep any of the leftover old ones for emergencies, also if it's towards the end of the month I just start the new one a bit early. It rarely happens though, maybe one damaged or lost every 2 or 3 years. In 20 years I've never had to buy any extra.

I used dailies last year and switched back to monthly
it is 💯 cheaper for me
i use vision direct
you get all in one solution to clean and store them.
its a piece of cake

RevelryMum · 16/10/2024 13:35

I use monthly's and order renu solution with them just make sure you know how to clean. Them correctly

SpikyHatePotato · 16/10/2024 14:23

I use monthlies as dailies don't come in my prescription (high myopia and astigmatism) - I see an independent contact lens specialist optician once a year for a check up (every other year is a more in-depth check for specific eye health etc), but I buy my lenses online from Vision Direct. They stopped doing the solutions I like for some reason, so now I get them from Costco, of all places!

As PP have said, it's a little pot with two separate sides with lids marked R and L, and you put in solution up to the line, bung in the lenses, and leave them overnight.

I often have a travel size bottle of saline on the go as well - my eyes get quite dry, and I sometimes take a lens out in the middle of the day and give it a quick swish in saline.

DoloresOnTheDottedLine · 16/10/2024 15:15

I’d recommend Specsavers- I get a set of lenses, a pot and the cleaning/storing solution for £18 per month (pay monthly but they actually come through the post in packs of three sets of everything so covering three months). I also get free eye tests and contact lens checks included in that price.
