Help! School bake sale and I've no time

DD has a school bake sale tomorrow and I'm crap at baking. Working late this evening, so need something really simple. Anyone got any fool-proof recipes, ideally something I can throw together relatively quickly? Note - I don't have a food processor or any fancy kitchen gadgets. (And I can't cheat and buy something, DD insisting we bake together)

I'd go for a tray bake. Something like this? www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/264234/recipe/malteser-tray-bake

Rocky road, flapjacks, cornflakes or rice crispie cakes?

School cake is really easy to make, pretty foolproof and everyone seems to love it!

Buy some ready made cookie dough from the supermarket and cook and be done. Or buy a tray of un iced cupcakes and put on some icing and sprinkles.

Can you buy ready made fairy cakes and decorate together or even a couple of Swiss rolls that can be cut up individually and decorate these

DeireadhFomhair · 16/10/2024 11:21

Send in shop bought.

Tray bake is the easiest thing, then decorate with icing sugar and sprinkles or coconut and jam

loopyluloopy · 16/10/2024 11:23

You can get a cake mix and disposable trays

mindutopia · 16/10/2024 11:26

Just buy cake or cupcakes from the shop.

I do tend to bake stuff because I’m fussy like that. But I’d say at least 1/3 of cakes at our cake sales are shop bought. They often go first!

You’ll make some kid extra happy if you can find some that are gluten/dairy free and individually packaged, as kids with allergies often miss out because of all the home baked stuff.

Mary Berry brownies. Just chuck everything together and bung in the oven. No faff at all.

I use a cake mix by a company called Wrights, they are in a small paper bag like a flour bag. They actually taste like homemade cakes, you just add water and oil and mix with a spoon. I do bake a lot but use there sometimes if I’m in a hurry or need to make several cakes in one session.

I like the ginger cake one and the chocolate fudge one. You can make a tray bake to cut into pieces or 12 muffins or 20 smaller buns from one packet. I’m often asked for my ginger cake recipe and people are surprised when I say it’s from a packet mix!

Chocolate Rice Krispie cakes covered in the brightest sprinkles you can find! Very easy, set in the fridge overnight and look cute!

fruitbrewhaha · 16/10/2024 11:30

Cornflake or rice crispy cakes. Or jam tarts, you could buy the pastry.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 16/10/2024 11:36

Shop bought is perfectly fine, in fact if you got something packed as gluten free or nut free that could be a great benefit to people with allergies who can't risk home made cakes due to the risk of cross contamination.

Anything with chocolate on - so bought cupcakes with cadburys dairy milk on or choc crispies add some sprinkles or something.
