Timing an interview presentation

I have an internal interview next week and have to give an 8 minute (!) presentation. I’ll practise it with a timer of course but it would be really helpful to be able to tell how much time is passing as I actually give it.

There’s no clock in the interview room. I could put my phone on the desk in front of me or use my Apple Watch somehow. Does putting my phone on the table look unprofessional?

Won’t be using a
laptop unfortunately as it’s purely oral, no slides

No - it looks prepared
can you set a recurrent minutes silent timer on your watch?

if you’re using PowerPoint then the presenter feature also has a ‘time elapsed’ display on the presenter screen when you use the two screen option. If you don’t have access to a second screen at home you’ll be able t find a screenshot of what it looks like

Do people even read the OP properly anymore?

A timer on your phone looks like you’re prepared and ready for the challenge. I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Just an old fashioned analogue watch?

In most presentations I've done (on both sides,) you'd normally be given a couple of minutes warning before the end.

I wouldn't have a watch running necessarily as this might put you off. Just practice a lot and if you have your timings right, make sure you don't ad lib too much. That's what is the usual cause of over running.

Not sure I've done a timed presentation without slides before though
