ceramic hob

Boring post alert.

My ceramic hob has some burnt on areas that I want to clean. I have tried scrubbing it with barkeepers friend etc. I have also tried baking powder and white vinegar. I have tried a special ceramic hob cleaner I can't get it off.

I am now wanting to try something really strong. I guess you are not supposed to use something live Oven Pride oven cleaner on your ceramic hob, so would appreciate any suggestions on how I get the really burnt in stuff off please. Has anyone actually tried using oven cleaner on a ceramic hob (Even though the instructions say not to) and not had disastrous results?

Agree with a plastic hob scraper. Leave one of your solutions to soak on it first for at least an hour, if possible.

Thanks both. Will give that a try, but I'm not convinced it will work, as it is so stubborn. Scraping it with my fingernail doesn't even touch it.

If it is burnt on stuff, then a hob scraper should shift it. Be careful not to scratch the hob by using the scraper at the correct angle and making sure the blade is sharp - use new blades as necessary. But if the marks are caused by sugar, you may be stuck with at least some them. Burned sugar pits the glass.

Yep, definitely just get a ceramic hob scraper. The scraper itself is made from ceramic, which is why it works. You can just buy spare blades as and when.

Don't use anything too strong as it will etch the glass - even if you can't see it.

I've had some success before by just leaving a wet cloth on the burnt on bit overnight. It can just soften it enough so you can scrape it off.

By the way, despite what the cleaning influencers think, when you mix baking powder and vinegar they neutralise each other. You're effectively using water.

Thanks all. I've ordered the hob scraper that was linked above. Will give that a try.

My hob scraper arrived and I've made a start on it. Now taking a well earned break to browse mumsnet. Thanks again for your recommendations
