Is it weird to take part in trick or treating without kids?

Love Halloween and love the whole trick or treating thing.
We don't have any kids yet but I plan on putting some decorations in the window and a pumpkin at the front door so kids know we are taking part.
I've bought some sweets for the trick or treaters.
Friend says it's weird because we have no kids yet but I don't think giving out some sweets is that weird is it ?

Giving out sweets to trick or treaters; completely fine and normal.
Dressing up and going door to door without any kids (which it what I thought your title meant!); quite weird 😆

Our children are grown up, but we always have a lit pumpkin and sweets for children at the door.

Your friend’s reaction makes no sense. Kids knock on doors whether the house is decorated or not and they don’t know if the occupants have any children or not! Last year I had very persistent trick or treaters knocking on my door and my house wasn’t decorated. My kids are all grown and left home, so I would now like to be Halloween free too😊

I've told this before but one year I got so very fed up with the incessant banging on the door, necessitating turning off the lights, and retreating to the back of the house with my elderly dog who freaked out at all the noise.

The gurning ankle biters in their ludicrous outfits were offered a choice of a nice tart apple or a mini toothbrush that year.

Turns the whole thing on its head very nicely.

This. My dogs go crazy - it’s a nightmare. Then the fireworks a couple of weeks later😭

Glad I am not the only one. This 'tradition' ( such an over used word these days) is not a harmless indulgence for many. It is a wretched, unwelcome, annoying nuisance.

I know I was being a bit silly in order to emphasise the point but please, think carefully before disturbing your neighbours.

The whole thing has become completely overhyped and commercialised in recent years. Decades ago, it was hardly even a thing. And now there is also all the disposable rubbish that goes with it too.

That's really surprising. Round here you only get trick or treaters if your house is decorated in some way for Halloween. I thought that was the universal rule of trick or treating 🤣

I don't have children; it's just me and the dog at home. I'm happy to give out sweets to the local children who knock on the door. We're in quite a small town and the vast majority of the children are lovely, it's nice to give them something to make them smile. It can get quite expensive though.

So did I😊 my first year in a new area last year so I was surprised how many kids knocked on my naked door. Neighbours houses were all decorated including pumpkins so I thought they would skip mine although to be fair I had actually forgotten it was Halloween on the day in question 😂

Of course not! My mum loves it and meeting all the kids in their costumes. Join in the fun!
