Seems like everywhere you look there's misery these days. I'd love it if we could share some nice stories that have happened recently. Big or small. Something you've seen that warmed your heart.

I'll start.

A few weeks ago I was working and someone came to my checkout with £250 worth of shopping in multiple items of the same lines. I asked if they had a cafe and they said "no, it's payday, this is our monthly donation to the food bank"

Brought a tear to my eye. Not only did they donate that much food, they donate the same every single month. The difference they're making to other people lives is unreal 🥹

Well okay.
Last spring I was at the grocery checkout where I'd popped in to get a few things.
An elderly man was in front of me, slowly packing his bags.

I had finished loading my groceries on the belt when I heard the cashier say something to the man who said something back in a confused way, and still mumbling he put his bags in the cart and left.

When it was my turn the cashier said something to a woman who was waiting at the end of cash desk.

Cashier turned to me and said there was no charge, nodded toward the woman, and said that she had paid for my groceries.

I was kind of stunned and blurted out are you sure? Really? Well thank you so much!
She had paid it forward for the two of us.

I felt sorry then that I had purchased a large bag of walnuts, on sale, but still a large proportion of the cost of my few items, which might have led her to think she had gotten off lightly paying for me as well!

Kind of sad that your post@Grumpycashier hasn't as yet got many positive stories isn't it. :(
What does that say about life today?

In the Lakes I was looking out for my husband's car (I had called him) as one of the walkers in our party had taken a tumble and needed a lift. I must have looked a bit frantic as a chap in a van pulled up and checked if I needed any help. Which was very kind of him. The lady who had the tumble didn't walk the next day, but made a quick recovery. Hope I bounce as well when I get to 79!

I was at the hospital because my son (primary school age) was having an operation.
Whilst this was happening I went to the hospital Costa to grab a coffee. In honesty I had a face like thunder as I was upset and trying to keep it together.
It was very busy and there was a young lad being a bit hyper and silly behind the counter. Maybe made my face a bit more thundery....
When I got to the counter the same lad asked if I would let him get this coffee. I started to well up. I tried to explain it had been a hard day and he just replied 'I know' and smiled and gave me a free coffee.

I will never forget this kindness. He must see hundreds of people a day but he just 'knew'. I hope his mum is very proud.

I have an ongoing problem but my line manager understands, has called relevant people on my behalf and found me temporary accommodation. She and her husband who also works here have gone above and beyond. Really grateful.
