I hate my teeth. What are my options

Hi all.

I just wanted to get some advice from people that might have been through the same. I grind my teeth and have done since I was a teenager. Always had problems with my teeth but had a bit of work done a few years ago (very costly and had to pay monthly) and managed to go a few years with no issues. Recently a crown on my back tooth failed so I got it replaced but it fell out after a month! They have reattached it but it's looking like I'm gonna lose the tooth in not too distant future. The tooth next to it is slightly cracked too so that will probably have to be crowned soon. I have an implant in one front tooth and a veneer on the other, aswell as some white fillings along the front teeth which will eventually need replacing. I was thinking of going to get a few prices together for maybe some implants on the back teeth and was wondering what else I could do to improve my smile as I'd rather get everything done at once (will have to pay monthly again but I'm sick to death of going back and forth to the dentist all the time for patch up jobs). I absolutely HATE them. I obsess over it constantly and if I get a tiny chip or anything like that I don't eat for days for fear or my tooth falling out. I have attached a pic so you can see what I'm working with, you can't really see my bottom or back teeth when I smile but the back ones are basically crumbling, although the front bottom ones are not too bad. Thank you for reading all this!! Grin

They look perfect! Smile

I’d pay for teeth like yours! They are honestly lovely

I'd be very happy with those teeth!

What can you do about your teeth?
You can exchange them with me! LOL

Seriously though, did your dentist not advise fitting you with a custom made mouth guard to help prevent grinding in your sleep?
That, and prescribed exercises, and medication to also help with grinding is another option.
To many of us, your teeth are lovely, but you've paid the price for them so I hope you can get help with that grinding issue, I know it's very destructive.

If someone asked me who that pic was of, I'd have guessed Angelina jolie. You have a lovely smile, sort out the troublesome back ones and try to do things to build your confidence as there's really nothing wrong with the front. The opposite in fact!

Ah thank you all but honestly they look ok but there are fillings all over to make them look ok and I'm always getting cracks that need fixing etc. I suppose I'm just sick of the cost and effort of going to the dentist all the time and want a more permanent solution Sad

I have had mouth guards but I just grind through them. I wake up everyday with a sore jaw, I am going to ask my dentist on Thursday about getting a metal one made, surely I can't grind through metal Grin

I have the same problem. There are lots of different types of mouth guards. I grind through most but now have a really hard one and this has lasted me about 20 years incredibly. Doesn't sadly mean my teeth don't crack all the time and my fillings constantly fall out so I feel your pain. But I think keeping as many of your own teeth as possible until you can't is my goal.

Botox for the bruxism, I'm surprised your dentist hasn't suggested that.

Shortyshortcake1 · 14/10/2024 22:58

Totally agree on botox for teeth grinding - it can be expensive but lasts for 6 - 8 months.

Also agree with the other posters that your teeth are lovely! If the tiny imperfections are bothering you - composite bonding could be something to explore? It's veneers but with fine layers of plastic and they are done tooth by tooth and don't require your teeth to be filed down like porcelain veneers. They last 5-8 years and cost is around 5-7k in London. I had a wonderful dentist who did mine and it's one of the best things I did - but my smile was nowhere near as nice as yours tbh!

Just came here to say, you have great teeth and a beautiful smile. If you have insecurities, you should know that many people would pay to have teeth like that! Good toothpaste, regular brushing, go easy on wine & sugar, don't play around with them, maybe take a supplement if you feel you you need to 👍

They look fine.

Speak to your dentist if you have pain or structural issues, but if you are concerned by their appearance that's in your head as they are straight and a decent colour.
