Alexa....why didn't I know this

With my peri menopause over active brain I have discovered the benefits of going to sleep listening to an audiobook.

I ask Alexa to set a timer and back she booms 'okay I'll switch off in 20 minutes' waking up my husband and probably annoying the neighbours.

It has taken me until this week to realise that if I whisper the instruction, she whispers too.

I'm guessing this is well known and I'm just dim. So what obvious thing that improves life a little has it taken you until now to realise?

DH freaks me out by sending Alexa messages when I'm at home and he's out that say "I can see you" or "I am watching you". I was not amused when I was alone in the house and that happened!

I didn't know she whispered until the following.

I was singing under my breath once in bed and Alexa clearly thought i said her name. Suddenly a voice whispered "sorry I don't know that one"

I was genuinely terrified.

If you announce "I'm home" Alexa plays a fanfare!

Sorry about the bottle emoji. I put in a grin!

Omg OP, thank you!
I can now whisper "Turn off white noise" instead of sitting there listening to it as baby sleeps deeply, wanting to year my ears off!

Got a late start this morning so I’ve been whispering Alexa, Good Morning in as many languages as I can remember.

Productivity levels of Monday are currently nil

I should never have started reading this thread. Trying all the suggestions and getting nothing else done.

Those of you with family accounts, how do you manage music? Ours all seem to be linked to my Spotify account (it’s also my Amazon account) and only one person can listen to music at a time.

We Bluetooth our phones to Alexa so we can have different music in different rooms. We have Spotify family though so all have our own accounts on there. But the Alexas are all connected to my account.

Yes, we have family Spotify but the only way it works for individuals is to treat Alexa as a Bluetooth speaker. Was wondering if I were missing a trick.

No as far as I know that's the only way to do it.

Routines are the way to go - I've got a "dinner's ready GET DOWNSTAIRS NOW" one and a "dinner is still ready and going cold, pause your game or I'll pause the wifi" one.

I also have one for gathering each individual child, one for telling DH to pop the kettle on that plays Polly put the kettle on at a high volume.

How do you make the announcements start with a trumpet blast?
