Before attacking me i always cook healthy and nourishing food for my baby!
But today we're going to have food at a family's house and they're cooking carbonara, and im wondering if i take the bacon out can the baby just have the pasta and a bit of the sauce? he's 8 month old, and im super paranoid on giving him this type of food as it has double cream, so wondering if anyone had an experience like this and if he can have it with no issue, it's just a one off

I think as a one off it's fine 😉

As DD's first proper meal at 9 months (she was a food refuser for ages) was restaurant Cannelloni, I am sure a one-off meal of carbonara is absolutely fine.

You aren't supposed to replace formula or breast milk with cow but a bit of cow milk products are absolutely fine.

Why would cream be an issue? Unless they’re allergic to dairy or egg it should be fine.

I might be reluctant to give a baby the amount of salt that’s likely in it - but as a one off it’s very unlikely to do any harm.

thank you!! ❤️❤️, just bc so many people judge saying it's fatty foods or too much salt, so sometimes i feel bad if i ever feed them something "" off the book"" of what's normal for a baby

If it's classic carbonara there won't be cream but the egg will be just set and possibly not recommended for a baby. Better ask whoever is doing the cooking, and if in doubt ask them to give you some pasta without sauce.

HappyDane · 13/10/2024 18:52

Babies need fatty foods, so there is absolutely nothing wrong with them having something like double cream every so often.

DeanElderberry · 13/10/2024 18:58

The cream seems good, the nearly raw egg less so.

HappyDane · 13/10/2024 19:10

They won't be using raw eggs if they're using cream, I don't think.

HappyDane · 13/10/2024 19:12

(but if they did OP could simply microwave the carbonara with a little bit of water which would cook the eggs sufficiently, or warm it through again in a pan for a few minutes)

DeanElderberry · 13/10/2024 19:19

of course, perfect solution.

Sounds delicious!!! Enjoy!!

Raw eggs are fine in the uk! You can have them pregnant or weaning! Don’t sweat it, they’ll not have too much anyway. Wait until they get to 18m and all they want is smoked salmon and olives - so salty but all the toddlers seem to love them!! Maybe it’s because they’ve been deprived of salt for so long 😂

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/10/2024 08:39

Raw egg and cream are absolutely fine in the UK. Fatty food is also required, babies should eat a balanced diet with all the food groups and there are very few things to avoid. I used to mimimise salt so eg in the case of pasta wouldn't put salt in the water .

When DD finally decides food was ok to eat, we never cooked solely for her. We adjusted our meals to exclude salt and reduced the amount of prepacked stuff (we cook from scratch mostly anyway) and she ate what we ate.
