Why isn’t my stuff selling?

Ive Accumulated so much baby stuff over the years that I just can’t rid of. All in excellent condition and quite a lot still new/ hardly used. I have so many brand new baby clothes, worn once etc.
I also have a lot of clothes/ shoes that I no longer need or no longer fit me shall i say.

I can’t flog any of it so please tell me which selling sites you all have luck with. I used to be a great ebayer and used it to bridge a gap when I wasn’t working but now I can’t sell anything on it or people want it for pennies, literally.
I’ve bought quite a lot from fb marketplace and things I’m interested in always seem to sell fast but mine don’t sell at all! Help me sell my stuff!!!

Marketplace usually works a treat unless - asking too much, or the pictures aren’t great.

I sold a lot of my baby stuff at a specialist baby and children sale - do they have any in your area?

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 12/10/2024 20:05

It's always price I'm afraid!

FLOWER1982 · 12/10/2024 20:06

Vinted. I’ve sold so much on there the past year. Make sure you take good photos and not set your prices too high. I’ve seen people selling stuff on different sites and they’re asking nearly what they paid for it. Even if its great condition, you’re not going to get that for second hand.

The problem with baby clothes is that they are so cheap to buy new from supermarkets.

Soontobe60 · 12/10/2024 20:12

My DD has bought bulk bundles of baby clothes from Vinted - she buys by size rather than a general mixed bundle. Id say about 75% of the things shes bought are nice. The remaining 25% she takes to the charity shop.

Milkynosugar · 12/10/2024 20:26

Well I’ll give you an idea if this helps. I listed my treasured uppababy stroller bundle with everything, cozy toes, rain covers, mosquito net, bassinet stand, whole travel system for £50. No takers! I don’t think that’s asking for too much is it ? And when I say treasured not because it’s battered but it was the first thing I bought my baby! I only used it for 6 months too.

I do agree that baby things can be bought for so cheap from the supermarket but mine are all gap, M&S, John Lewis, pop really new and I start biddding at £3 because at 99p I’d just be paying for postage. Shall I change that?

I buy a lot of things second hand now and I think to myself well if I buy it surely someone will
buy mine!

How much did you sell your baby stuff for @mnahmnah , I considered doing that but dont have childcare. Even if I sold clothes for £1 each that would be a win. I went to one myself and thought a lot of the sellers were pricing things quite high tbh eg £12 for sleeping bag, £60 stair gate.
I saw one lady selling her own clothes, bags, shoes that made me chuckle.

Have you tried Vinted? Maybe do bundles of specific sizes

BarnacleBeasley · 12/10/2024 20:35

I buy bundles of baby clothes on Ebay because the postage for individual items is too expensive. So I'd look at yours if they were listed in sensible bundles of e.g. 7 pairs of leggings in the same size. People also tend to put one or two branded items in a bundle.

On Facebook, I am in a couple of really active, community focused groups and things tend to sell better on there than just stuck on marketplace for the general public.

CrabbyCat · 12/10/2024 20:41

How long have you listed them for? My experience on Facebook marketplace is things take much longer to go than they used to with postage on eBay, because you are waiting for someone in a very restricted geographic area to want that thing. Even pricing low, it can take months for there to be someone close enough to you who wants that specific thing. However, once someone is interested they then tend to want to collect literally that evening.

reluctantbrit · 12/10/2024 20:52

I wouldn't buy a second hand baby item for £3 regardless of the brand.

I sold quite a lot at NCT Nearly New Sales and from experience, things sell better from 9mths/12 months onwards. The early baby things only go as bundles for really little money. Most mums just want to get rid of it.

But even then a dress would go for £2 or a proper outfit for £3.

Stroller etc really depends. We were lucky with our Bugaboo but the MacLaren took ages to sell.

IfIToldYouThisAboutMe · 12/10/2024 20:54

Vinted. You get all the money. No fees. Buyer pays postage.
I've sold loads on there

VictoryOrDeath · 12/10/2024 21:01

I've sold a lot of things on eBay successfully. I buy on Vinted, but I wouldn't sell there - it's a bit of a jumble sale, and people want things for pennies. I think both buyer and seller have much better protection on eBay. And didn't eBay just drop their fees or something...? Not sure of the details.

I don't understand why people say Vinted is better to sell on as you don't pay postage. Why is that different to eBay where the postage is included in the price the buyer pays?

SirChenjins · 12/10/2024 21:10

I’d try Vinted for the clothes and Marketplace or nearly new sales for equipment. I’ve stopped using facebook, I got so fed up of waiting days for something to end and then getting outbid - and the buy it now option was always on the high side. Vinted all the way now.

99RedBallonz · 12/10/2024 21:17

Baby clothes in small sizes are hard to sell because the market is saturated. You are better off bundling.

How much are you charging for postage?

NonStopMoaning · 12/10/2024 21:44

Postage on single items was too high to make it cost effective. I also bought baby clothes bundles because of this.

Local people around here tend to sell on local FB sites, cash on collection. Seems quite busy. But again, baby clothes are bundled because who's going to drive across town for a newborn outfit?
