Which vacuum cleaner do you recommend for pet hair?

Definitely not the shark with anti hair wrap technology. It can’t do more than 10 minutes without blocking.
Following to see what to replace it with!

Luluissleeping · 12/10/2024 11:20

Miele cat and dog is good

Agreed. Mine is a cloggy fucker and cost a bomb.

Autumnlife · 12/10/2024 13:23

I’ve had the Sebo pet felix well over a year now and doesn’t clog up it was a replacement for a shark hoover which was awful. Before the shark I’d had a Miele cat and dog another brilliant hoover didn’t buy another one because I wanted an upright one and didn’t know if they did them in the upright version.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 12/10/2024 13:54

I’ve got the Miele Cat and Dog and it does fuck all in the way of picking up hair. I end up getting down on my hands and knees with a stiff brush.

I don't have pets, but lots of long hair from children....I find the dyson animal with the pet hair attachment good. It sort of tangles it into a ball which can then be sucked up when the vacuum deposits it on the floor

Procrastinates · 12/10/2024 14:00

I have a bog standard Henry who does a much better job of picking up black dog and cat hair than any pet hoover I've ever owned.

I also vote Henry - mine is brilliant! Far better than any other I've tried. It does have bags but you can bulk buy them when on offer.

I had this in the past too but it was no match for dog hair!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/10/2024 20:36

I have a vax reach and it's great on Labrador and ragdoll hair (both shed like nobody's business) - I vacuum every few days and fill a whole bucket every time. It wasn't even that expensive, less than £100. I would love a little cordless one though for nipping around the hard floors though

Mymblesdaughter · 12/10/2024 20:38

Not the Dyson cordless for pets found it useless. Henry pet is great.

tealandteal · 12/10/2024 20:43

Also Henry! We had a special per one which was good, or it may have been a Harry but just got a standard Henry to replace it and it does a brilliant job. Two spaniels and my long post partum hair shedding were quite a challenge but it copes well.

I do have a little carpet comb/brush which I use for the stairs as I find them hard to get all the hair off otherwise.

Yes, me too! My dog sheds so much I have to hoover twice a day. I've had a number of "pet" Hmm hoovers and they've all been absolutely crap and a waste of money. Old fashioned Henry has been the best and lasted the longest (more than 4 years).

username3678 · 12/10/2024 21:09

I have just bought a new Henry. They're smaller and lighter and have reusable bags.

No good for long haired cats though! The hair would get tangled round the roller!

Nannyfannybanny · 12/10/2024 22:23

I have a shark pet corded, not the hair wrap technology one. Have had it 7 years, absolutely love it, I have 2 border collies, who moult for England and I used to have my DD long haired cat.. no-one makes Hoovers, apart from Hoover, must be an age thing. The first vacuum cleaner I had in the 70s was a HOOVER.

Georgeofthejungle · 12/10/2024 22:26

We had a shark and it was ok but the filters get blocked really quickly. Ours died (literal smoke) so I asked my cleaner and she recommended the Mielle - she says one of her other houses uses that and it’s the best she’s ever used? It’s quite pricey though.

We ended up buying a Hetty extra and it’s immense! Mostly because it’s pink but also for the motorised brush which is awesome on the pet hair. It also does nicely in the stairs and quite easy to navigate.

Sallylovesdaisy · 12/10/2024 22:43

I've got just a cheap vacuum from Lidl, which does the job quite well. But I also have, for in between vacuuming, a rubber broom and a hand brush too, they're brilliant- so much better than an ordinary bristle broom!

WickWood · 12/10/2024 22:50

I have a vax pet cordless and a Henry. We use the Henry!

SunnieShine · 12/10/2024 22:53

Sebo is very effective but also very heavy.

Pancakeflipper · 12/10/2024 22:53

Sebo.
I think my Sebo will out last me.

Chickdaft · 12/10/2024 23:20

Had 2 sharks which stopped working at different times, one under a month, 2nd under 4 months so thought I can’t ask for a third under warranty so took a Dyson. Hated it from day one. Cumbersome, could not go into corners and the top wand was so hard to fit back into the handle (sold it to a friend who still has it) bought a 3rd shark which , yes they clog easy but I can cope with that.
At my work I use a Henry and if I’m honest they are the best. A million cleaners around the country can’t be wrong.
Love the shark for home , corded .(also had a cordless one which cost a lot but broke)
Would buy a Henry for home if the current shark breaks.

Nannyfannybanny · 13/10/2024 07:39

I remove the filters from the shark monthly and wash them in washing liquid, then give them some fabric conditioner to make them smell nice, get rid of any doggy smell. Dgd stays regularly very long thick hair, maybe twice a year,we have to remove it from the foot brush. My ds has the latest upright shark, incredible suction. I have usually been berated by now, for mentioning hoovering replacing vacuuming. The first manufacturer of a portable vacuum cleaner was spangler. I don't actually know anyone who has a Hoover anymore.. we've had 3 Dyson uprights, not worth the money,an LG cylinder which passed to my DS,lasted years. Our last place,a 1930s cottage, very steep narrow stairs, very difficult to carry the Dyson up. Open plan bungalow now,so shark hangs behind the back door on the wall. After what I have read on here, I won't upgrade to the hair wrap.

My Sebo has finally given up - but definitely considering another.
