Vinted - expensive item

liquidsquidli · 11/10/2024 21:33

I'm selling an expensive down coat for my husband (£150)

It's been bought by someone with no review no picture and no message. That just have a name and number eg johnsmith27.

They haven't sent any message either where as the two other interested parties have sent questions about the technical spec or just said thanks for the offer etc. and had pictures in the bio.

Would you cancel the sale and block the seller? I don't feel 100% comfortable.

I have sold over 300 items.

What’s the risk? I have no picture on my vinted. I have reviews but when I started buying I didn’t. Surely you are covered with vinted regardless

The risk is the buyer receives it and opens a claim falsely accusing you of selling a fake. Vinted refunds the buyer. Or that they return to you but swap the item out for a counterfeit version. You lose money and/or the item.

I'd block and relist.

What will happen if I cancel?

@FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant so articulate for a Friday night!

This is my fear.

It’s fine - take a video of it being packaged and sent. Send a photo to the buyer. If they’re fishy they’ll cancel.

IfIToldYouThisAboutMe · 11/10/2024 21:43

I'd cancel

RandomUsernameHere · 11/10/2024 21:43

That's a tricky one! There has to be a first time for everyone buying or selling, but it seems a bit strange to buy a higher value item as your first one. I don't think lack of a picture is a red flag though, I don't have one.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 11/10/2024 21:44

I'd cancel. I'm happy to let people buy my stuff under a tenner if they have no reviews but I sold a Kate spade bag and had the same issue. I cancelled the transaction as I just didn't want to risk it on an expensive item.

liquidsquidli · 11/10/2024 21:48

They also have nothing for sale either not that that is are flag in itself but it gives a vibe!

there are too many uncertainties

For example another buyer is keenly into outdoor gear as similar stuff for sale but not loads of it (ie fakes) and had a picture on the top of a mountain and lives in the district and has a 30ish reviews.

Do you get negative feedback? Did you give a reason?

I'm on mat leave.. couldn't even tell you what day of the week it is anymore 😂

djfjfj · 11/10/2024 22:06

I started using vinted a few months back. I’ve bought around 15 items and left feedback on receiving the items but only one seller has left me feedback! I’m not interested in selling (I can’t be doing with the hassle - it all goes straight to the charity shop, no matter what the value). And I don’t have a profile picture. I was tempted into using it when I saw an item I really wanted being listed - the value was irrelevant.

So I might be seen as questionable, but I’m not.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 11/10/2024 22:49

@liquidsquidli
the buyer messaged and asked why. I told her. She argued she was genuine but told her I wouldn't risk it.
I don't recall getting negative feedback? Big may have had an auto cancel thing. I'd sold about 50 things by then and purchased loads more so wasn't actually worried either way. Far better one auto negative than losing £80 (as my bag was at the time). Sold it next day to someone with loads of decent feedback.

liquidsquidli · 12/10/2024 12:22

Update

I cancelled the sale this morning in citing unforeseen circumstances and I didn't get a reply!

I'd be pretty annoyed if I was genuine buyer and would message the seller. I haven't blocked yet as wanted to give time to reply but I do reckon there was something suspect.

Who would spend £150 on a first purchase.

I did accept his offer too so I need to be more careful. My stuff is all cheap husbands is more expensive!

From the buyer's perspective, what difference? Do you expect people to buy things they don't want or need at lower prices first?

Exactly. As I said above, the value of the first item I bought was irrelevant; it was an item I really wanted and it didn’t matter whether what the value was.

And if a seller cancelled an item then I wouldn’t message to find out why either - surely it’s up to the seller to say why, and you’ve already given a reason 🤷‍♀️

liquidsquidli · 12/10/2024 16:04

I'd expect someone to dabble first, with a few lower priced items, as I would do.

Or ask a few questions.

Also it isn't mine so it feels a bit more risky!

your looking way to much into this, i have bought lots from vinted and never asked a question or messaged the seller

liquidsquidli · 12/10/2024 17:26

Have you spent £150 on one item in vinted?

I buy rare, discontinued items linked to a hobby, where £150 isn’t a large amount.

Tikttotk · 12/10/2024 19:06

Oh really? I don’t have a profile pic or anything. Just buy stuff. Nothing high value tbh.

Same. Not using it as a social media account. I thought that was normal…

Pureshores499 · 12/10/2024 19:18

If your gut says something is off, it usually is. I'd cancel and block.

Autumn1990 · 12/10/2024 19:22

I would have cancelled it hat sale and I have sold a lot on Vinted. Don’t worry about your feedback, almost every seller has one or two cancelled sales and so long as you’ve other good feedback it’s fine.
The only times I’ve had trouble with online sales is when I’ve thought this isn’t right and still sent the item
