VINTED .. Does this put you off?

If you like an item on vinted and it's hung up in their living room/ bedroom/ kitchen, and you can clearly see that room is very dirty.. does it put you off buying?

Recently came across a pic of a new jacket on the floor with a MASSIVE cockroach in the corner of the pic, no need to say I didn’t buy😅.
So yes, clothes surrounded by mess is not a great sign.

Oh No Wtf GIF by LilLetsOfficial

Cockroaches!! Hell no!

KnittingOnEmpty · 11/10/2024 19:39

It would put me off, yuk!
Also nearly everything I've zoomed in on recently is so unbelievably crumpled.

Carnationstreet7 · 11/10/2024 19:40

💯

henlake7 · 11/10/2024 19:40

Honestly it depends on the price.
I recently bought a dress that was selling for peanuts with no interest despite the same dress selling for four times as much.....it was so wrinkled it looked an absolute state.
Quick wash and iron and it's good as new!

Anything saying “worn once”, too

In some cases, items have only been worn once though, because they only needed it for that one ocassion or the fit wasn't quite right. Not necessarily dodgy.

Cardboardeaux · 11/10/2024 19:55

I like it when a listing specifies the item comes from a smoke-free (and ideally also pet-free) home.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 11/10/2024 19:55

Yes. I am judgy about everything when I look to buy on Vinted - background conditions, anything laid on the floor, dirty nails, excessive wrinkles and on. And on.

In my years of browsing eBay and Vinted I have seen some quite sad listings where the seller is a hoarder who is trying to downsize and is listing filthy items in a derelict looking house. Even sadder when the prices are high.

Edited to agree with PP. I would hate to buy something from a minging smoker’s house.

IDontDrinkTea · 11/10/2024 19:56

My favourite is when they say pet and smoke free home… then the corner of the photo has a little fluffy cat tail sneaking into the shot 😂

Cardboardeaux · 11/10/2024 19:58

TokyoSushi · 11/10/2024 19:18

Absolutely yes, also the item on the person, I like to pretend nobody has ever worn it!!

It amuses me when the listing says the item has never been worn but the photo is of them wearing it 😅 (obviously I know what they mean but I am a massive pedant easily amused)

Totally agree about the screwed up / lack of ironing. I know most of us dislike ironing but come on!

Some of the sellers clearly have zero idea about selling.

I'll add to the clueless seller list the people who sell things at prices that are HIGHER than buying direct from the brand. Do they not check prices first?

Your bottom paragraph drives me up the wall as well as worn stuff that they’ve knocked about 10% of the price off. I’d rather pay the extra and be able to return.

Mumoftwinboysitssomuchfun · 11/10/2024 20:02

Yes and also when you can see the seller's feet in the foreground 🤣

Gilead · 11/10/2024 20:06

I check floors etc and if it hasn’t seen an iron I scroll past.

Cardboardeaux · 11/10/2024 20:07

I'm now paranoidly checking my own Vinted listings!

Choochoo21 · 11/10/2024 20:16

If it’s dirty, then yes it would put me off.

If it’s messy, then it would depend.
It could be that they are going through their wardrobe and clearing out their clothes.

Anything saying “worn once”, too

Why? I've sold things that I've worn once and also buy a lot of practically new items.

Timeforsnacks · 11/10/2024 20:32

When clothes are laid out on thick shagpile rugs it puts me off so much

isthesolution · 11/10/2024 20:37

Yes. And FEET! Don't take photos with your feet in!

Flopsy145 · 11/10/2024 20:47

Yes for sure. Same comments as others with it being on the floor that's obviously dirty

Shoe listings are notorious for this. If you want a laugh go to the shoes!

It's like the seller has lost touch with reality. They list the shoes Brand NEW, NEVER WORN or ONLY WORN ONCE or TWICE.

Meanwhile in the very same picture, the sole of the shoe is blackened through use, the heels are scuffed to F and one I saw today where the seller listed as 'only worn twice' The inside of the shoe where the lettering of the brand is imprinted on the insole, is worn away through friction with a foot. You can barely read it.
Why lie? Surely no one is expecting new for that money.

@Timeforsnacks me too.

I wanted some shoes for a ball, had my eye on a perfect pair but could get past the photos with the seller wearing/posing with them on. Bare feet and a very bad fake tan.
Didn't buy them.

LifeofBrienne · 12/10/2024 08:38

I just want to get an accurate idea of what an item is like. So a close up photo where you can see if the fabric is worn/bobbled is useful. Occasionally it’s easier to tell the shape of something if it’s laid flat, for example a flared dress. People on MN seem to be put off by the seller wearing an item but that can be helpful. For example I’ve just bought a jumper that’s more oversized than you’d expect from the label, and I wanted to get another jumper the same make. I would have sized down but I could see because the woman was wearing it that it was tight-fitting so I sized up instead.
About 95% of things I scroll through are hung up on cupboard doors or similar and only maybe 1 in 100 have really crap photography or are laid out but not straight so you can’t see the shape properly. I’m not seeing all the dirty houses etc. Maybe it makes a difference that I mostly search for dresses, t-shirts and jumpers so people just stick them on a hanger.

LifeofBrienne · 12/10/2024 09:04

Oh and I don’t care about ironing but one time someone had used a fabric conditioner or laundry scent so strong you could smell it from across the room, and it was still pungent after I’d washed it. Obviously you can’t tell that from photos but I did wonder what it would be like to visit their house!

I agree that someone wearing the item can be really helpful to get a reference of how it will fit.

I buy vintage stuff and honestly the sizing can be a nightmare between brands. So someone wearing it can really make the difference for me to see how it sits.

I don't understand the barefoot thing being a turnoff. They're taking pics in their house and you're buying second hand!

Normallynumb · 12/10/2024 21:53

Yes, it would definitely put me off
I only look at tops hung up too, mainly because I can clearly see how long they are, plus it's easy to zoom in.
It does make me smile when the listing says " Needs an iron"..

StarDolphins · 12/10/2024 21:55

background is as important as the item to me. I don’t buy from grotty backgrounds!
