Pinworms / threadworms no treatment

The little blighters entered the house last week. Family treated and seem fine. I can't take the treatment as I'm pregnant.

How the hell do I get them out of me?!

I understand I need to wash hands / hot wash pyjamas, bedding, towels. We are all sleeping in separate beds and using separate bathrooms so I'm as confident as I can be I won't reinfect anyone but how do all these hygiene measures get rid of the ones making my bum itch like hell?!

Everything I read seems to be about not spreading rather than killing them if you can't take treatment.. has anyone got rid quickly successfully?

speak to your GP, they might be able to prescribe something

lavenderlou · 10/10/2024 22:21

Poor you. I would speak to GP but have also found a thick blob of sudocrem/vaseline around the anus can prevent them being able to lay eggs. Wash well in the morning.

Speak to your GP and get the treatment. It's just because testing on pregnant women is forbidden. The treatment doesn't harm your pregnancy but go through your doctor.

Otherwise, the life cycle is 6 weeks. Vaseline on the bum hole and shower straight out of bed. Use a baby wipe during the night for the itching, put straight into a bag. They'll just die out

I spoke To gp and took the treatment while pregnant as prescribed. Everything was fine. I was prescribed the very treatment you can just buy over the counter.

This was last Christmas time. Baby girl born in April with all her fingers and toes in tact x

Ask your chemist which treatment is OK during pregnancy.

PinWormWizard · 10/10/2024 22:28

Thanks all - I'll have to speak to the GP I think - I can't do this for SIX WEEKS?! 😱

In the meantime I've tried the Vaseline, thanks @gamerchick

This is a fantastic resource my midwife gave me for meds while pregnant too BTW. So much information on there and recommend by professionals xxx

Have the rules changed? I'm sure I had the over the counter stuff when pregnant? No advice but you have my sympathy!

kiwiane · 10/10/2024 22:33

Yes - ask your GP or you’ll go mad and reinfect everyone!

Would love to know the rationale behind pumpkin seeds

There's none - urban myth

There's none - urban myth

I think the rationale is that they kind of scour your intestines and stop worms from being able to attach to membrane surfaces. Other fibrous food like raw celery etc would do the same.

I'm sure there are all kinds of folk medicines that people used to use, as pp said the doc is your best option to shift them fast. And Vaseline or similar around your bum at night.

PinWormWizard · 15/10/2024 22:07

Thanks everyone - spoke to the doc and took the treatment and banished the itchy bum hole.

HEAVEN!!
