General anaesthetic or sedation advice?

Question re hysteroscopy. Going private for mine and they are recommending general anaesthetic. I’ve had it done before without anything and would rather that but they won’t do it that way. They said instead they could do a sedation. Can anyone tell me the differences really between general anaesthetic and sedation? I don’t know why I’m so worried to be put to sleep for it but I am.

Only a personal anecdote but I had sedation recently for a dental procedure and it was brilliant. I remember going in and sitting in the chair, I remember the dentist siting the IV and telling me she was putting in the infusion and vaguely remember thinking "I'm not sure it's doing anything" and then I was in the recovery room. Absolutely no memory of inbetween. Went home very quickly, on the train, it was fine. I had to have someone with me for 24h and they said not to drive or cook, but in all honesty I was absolutely fine.

I’d take the GA, I had a procedure done under sedation and felt worse afterwards than I did from a GA.

Depends on the type of sedation. Propofol is closer to a GA than a sedative in an IV.

I had mine under a spinal - I was awake, recovered quickly and didn't need someone to stay with me. Might be worth asking about as an option.
It was anesthetist on the day who made the decision.

I’ve had both and felt no difference between them. Sorry, I know that’s not very helpful!
