2 wheeled scooter for 4yo?

I’d like to get DD a scooter for her 4th birthday. She has never had one before but has been confidently cycling (with pedals, no stabilisers) since she turned 3. She’s about average height for her age.

I was going to get her a 3 wheel maxi micro but then read on their website that they are for kids who can’t balance yet, and that the 2 wheelers are more suitable for kids who can cycle. But the 2 wheelers are age 5+ and she is turning 4.

They’re quite expensive so I’d rather get the 2 wheeler if it has more longevity, but also want her to be able to use it right away. Oh and want to surprise her so limited opportunity to test out in real life though I may have to! Does anyone have any experience?

Sorry just reread, yes get her the more grown up one if she’s cycling well

The other good thing about 3 wheelers is that they don’t fall over when you’re not holding them up. This is quite helpful if you have to drag it round the shop after the school run or if your kid is likely to just drop it every time she’s distracted instead of placing it carefully somewhere.

Around here all 7YOs are still on the 3 wheeled versions and yes they can all ride bikes so I don’t think that has much to do with it and I wouldn’t worry about longevity. Thinking about it, I don’t see many people on 2 wheeled versions, only the odd adults in an effort to keep up with the kids! And another benefit of the 3 wheeled version is that if they get tired then it’s easy for you to drag whilst they stand.

My 4 year old is on a 2 wheeler. The only issue she had was not liking it fall over if she paused and let go but she got used to that within days of getting the thing.

Ah that’s interesting - my 6yo wants a 2 wheeler because all of his friends have them. I will definitely get him one but it seems much more borderline for the little one!

DD doesn’t have a bike stand so is used to having to lean her bike. Saying that, I was thinking it might be useful to be able to drag her along on it and presumably you can only do that with a 3 wheeler?

You can drag a two wheeler it's just more wiggly.
They also tend to fold much smaller so going in a shop it's just like carrying a umbrella rather than a full scooter

Just bumping this for the evening crowd!

Think I’m leaning towards one of the large wheeled micro scooters now like this:
