Some lovely things happened to me today

NC because this is quite outting.

Some lovely things happened to me today and I thought I'd share them in light of mental health awareness day tomorrow.

I've had a rough few days. Terrible mental health and anxiety. Worrying about money and Christmas coming up.

I've definitely needed a pick me up and today I experienced an incredible turn of events with true acts of kindness.

I was out with my DD (she's 18 months) and I had no snacks on me - nothing, which on reflection was a bit foolish. I had been to B&Q and she was so unsettled, I thought she might be hungry but obviously, B&Q don't sell food! So I went to this burger van in the middle of the car park hoping they'd have something like Wotsits to tide her over and the woman running it said that she'd give my DD a packet of crisps, a drink and a Kit Kat completely free despite me offering to pay and I already had a drink on me!

I was so touched.

But that's not it.

I then took my car to the garage as my windscreen washer wasn't working, I expected a massive bill that I couldn't really afford and had been worrying about it for days, overthinking and everything, just increasing my anxiety. I took it in after B&Q and waited, stressing and feeling worse and worse.

I went back once finished and they'd done my tyres, fixed my washer and checked my oil at my request... for free!

The garage just said no charge and see you next time and gave me the biggest smile!

I so needed this. And just wanted to share because I know others are likely struggling with their mental health and increasing pressures but the world can be good and there is kindness left and if you are struggling, you can get through this.

That is so lovely to read.

I think it’s good to remember these things when days aren’t so rough and pay the kindness forward in any small way you/we can.

Thank you for sharing, your post made me smile

oh and also I’d buy a lottery ticket today- the odds are obviously in your favour!

This is lovely to read and gives you faith in the world. Sometimes the universe gives us a nudge to remind us it's going to be ok, glad today was your day OP

Bearpawk · 09/10/2024 14:48

I'm sorry to hear you've had such a rough time - are you getting any support for your MH?

Joyfulincolour · 09/10/2024 15:50

I know that this sounds a bit "woo" but I often think the universe delivers when you are struggling! Really positive things have happened to me just when I needed it most. It could be an opportunistic conversation with someone going through the same thing as you, when you're feeling down. Or it could be you're running late for an important meeting & you manage to get a parking space in a packed car park. It's the little things.

I'm glad that these lovely things happened for you OP, just what you needed!

I remember some years ago I was trying to start my very elderly car in Asda car park. I had a boot full of nothing but Smart Price shopping, I was skint and at a very low ebb. The car was spluttering and refusing to start (not for the first time) and I put my head on steering wheel in despair. Just then I heard a voice at the open window. It was a man in his 60's I'd say with a very friendly face. He said "it's alright, I'm your guardian angel - try the car again". I did and it started! I thanked him so much and he just smiled and walked off. I've had other kindnesses over the years but that has always stuck in my mind.

Oh that's lovely!

The garage event made me smile because we had a small car sales/garage business for years and this what happened you was the sort of thing my husband did on a daily basis. He'd always say it didn't cost him anything but time so small little jobs like yours were seldom charged for and if he knew someone was struggling he'd go out of his way to help. We had a woman call back in to us after not seeing her for quite a while, she wanted to thank him because after her childrens father abandoned them my husband kept her car running even putting new tyres on it free of charge (he spun a story of a customer paying for them and changing their mind) so she could get to work, she came back to tell us her employer had helped her get more qualifications and that she was now a manager at one of their nursing homes, she was buying a house and the future was looking good for her and her children all steming from a small bit of mechanical work and a few white lies. I'm glad this happened you and helped you feel good, hopefully it'll continue.

Thank you for sharing. I find even if things haven't happened to me I get vicarious joy from lovely things happening to other people. I'm glad this happened to you when you really needed and appreciated it.

Yesterday one of my customers sent me this..

I love this! I did it recently for our (amazing) cleaners, added a fiver onto the standing order. One of them came and said oh you're overpaying and I said nope, it's a tip cos you do an excellent job.

What a lovely man your husband is! And I'll bet my bottom dollar that you're lovely too.

Enoughwiththisshit · 10/10/2024 12:53

That's so sweet, OP - I'm glad that the kindness of strangers helped you through.
Really sorry you're having a tough time and I hope yesterday was the start of things beginning to look up. 💐

CarrieMoonbeams · 10/10/2024 12:58

This is such a lovely thread!

And @Mudflaps your story really made me smile, what a kind soul your DH is. It reminds me of the little garage in our village, I honestly don't know how they make any profits, with the amount of "och it's just a wee job" things that they do for people!

Lemond1fficult · 10/10/2024 13:01

@asthma09345215 this is a lovely thing to happen and a very nice thread to read. You must be putting some good energy into the world yourself if all these people are doing things for you without you asking.

Boobygravy · 10/10/2024 13:09

We have a brilliant garage and every Christmas dh takes them a big tin of biscuits.
It means they feel appreciated, they are, and therefore remember us.
They recently had to come out as our car door lock wouldn't work I was expecting a huge bill, £40. So reasonable.
