Need a push to travel alone!

Need a bit of a push/ reassurance. Apprehensive about travelling alone- well actually about staying in a hotel alone- on a Europe city break.
Have dipped my toe in by booking cheap flights and one overnight (hotel is free cancellation at mo’ in case I back out)
Feel fine about wandering around the city etc but nervous about staying overnight in the hotel alone.
Any tips? Could do this when I was younger and seem to have suddenly got nervous as I’ve got older.
If you are alone in a hotel, how do you make yourself feel safe at night?
Realise most folk probably don’t give this a second thought!
It’s not til next year. It would be a shame to waste the flights so will try hard not to chicken out!
Thanks in advance!

It has never occurred to me to feel in any way unsafe in a hotel, regardless of whether I’m solo, assuming I’m not at the Bates Motel. What exactly is worrying you?

If it's not until next year you could book a night in a UK hotel before then?

How about somewhere 2 to 3 hours away that you'd like to visit but a bit far for a day trip.

But like a pp, I don't understand why you feel unsafe. I've stayed away alone loads of times, mainly for work and it's fine.

Put the lock thing on the door, do always does it as he travels for business to all kinds of places, some slightly dubious

I use a door stop. Just makes me feel a bit more secure. I've got more anxious about this as I've go5 older even though I'm now staying in far nicer places than I used to when young and didn't give i5 a thought. e

Thanks folks, very good idea to stay in a Uk hotel first, I’ll do that.
Yes, realise I’m likely worrying over nothing. Thank you

One simple trick that might help while you build confidence is to pack a small door wedge. With it in place on your side of the door, very little could happen wrt people getting in

And you would remind yourself of it in case of fire or just going out

I commend you for getting to grips with holidaying alone. It really is quite wonderful once you get the knack to have absolutely no one to please but yourself. Enjoy.

Thank you Finallyhere! Yes, hopefully once I’ve done it I’ll gain confidence for another trip!
