Vinted - do u make an offer if you don't want to buy?

Recently I've had people offer me a price which I accepted but they haven't paid. It's happened 3 times with the same dress. When I offer a price it's because I genuinely want to purchase the item. Who makes an offer if they don't want to buy? A quick message saying they've changed their mind would be courteous.

They could have changed their mind or found something else in the meantime. I don't make an offer on things I don't want to buy, but I have done both of those things.

I also find these days, people don't want a bunch of extraneous messages, so they'd see them not buying it as notice enough, I suppose. It can get pretty overwhelming when you have so many sellers ending you offers and stuff, it could eat up a lot of time messaging them all back for every little thing!

If a seller takes too long to respond to an offer, I may go elsewhere. It's ok to change your mind. For example, if I make a seller an offer and 2 mins later I see exactly the same item at a lower price, I would go with that. It's a saturated market. I also sell on vinted and don't consider an item sold until a payment has been made. It's just the way it goes.

I responded immediately in all 3 occasions so that's not it. I just don't understand why you would make an offer, which I accepted immediately then not bother to pay.

Could have made offers on a bunch of stuff in rapid succession and just bought the one with the best offer I suppose, but one thing apps like Vinted have made me realise is that people are really odd, so who knows!

I'll often find the same item multiple times so I'll put offers in on them all and then the best one wins.

I’m sick of this. Multiple offers which immediately accepted then ghosted by buyer. So annoying, why bother?

I do this too, it's a price thing

Because there’s literally no downside to the buyer of making multiple offers and then accepting the one that replies quickest, meanwhile there’s every incentive to do it, because you get what you want quicker. If you want a black jacket but could happily wear any one of ten that are on there for a similar price, the ball is in your court and for a very small outlay of time and effort you can save money easily. It’s silly not to put in multiple offers in that situation- you can only benefit from it as a buyer.

People are strange

PixiePirate · 08/10/2024 17:52

I agree with you OP. A quick message to say they have changed their mind or whatever is basic courtesy. Some people just have bad manners.

BertieBotts · 08/10/2024 17:54

I don't usually make offers but sometimes I will have my eye on multiple things and message all the sellers, I only need one item. So I might hold out for my favourite thing.

Or honestly sometimes ADHD kicks in and I forget to respond and then I get embarrassed that it has been so long Blush

An ‘offer’ on Vinted isn’t treated as an offer
It comes in as a question as to whether you would accept £x

When I started on Vinted I would accept, then get the item out ready to send …… and wait

Treat it as a potential sale enquiry, but you will get a lot of them - no matter how quickly you respond

Aprilcherry04 · 08/10/2024 18:09

I get the multiple offers thing but my dress was an occasion dress and quite pricey even at less than half price. It's the only one in the size so either you want it or you don't. Personally I don't put an offer on unless I actually want to buy. I've never had an offer accepted where I didn't purchase the item. It's like the fb marketplace thing. I was selling wedding decor and a lady contacted me for a particular item as soon as it went live. She was very keen and asked me to keep it for her until she could collect 2 days later. Multiple messages from her until the night before. I could have sold it many times. Messaged her the night before to check collection time and she ghosted me. Why just not say she'd changed her mind. 😱
