Is this a (work) red flag?

Since I started at this company in February there have been three very similar announcements in the manager bulletin board (we can't respond to it, only management can type in it).

'To let you know, X has left the company with immediate effect. Please respect us and X and do not question this any further or contact them about it' (paraphrased but something like that).

One of the people had only started a couple of weeks before.

I don't think it is that they'd all left due to their own unfortunate circumstances either, because this has also happened and the bulletins are much more kindly worded.

Is three people in a year leaving with immediate effect something to be concerned about?

Yes, huge red flag. Is it a startup by any chance?

NewtonsCradle · 08/10/2024 12:22

I'd be updating my CV and looking for other opportunities.

Get out of there OP.

ButtSurgery · 08/10/2024 12:25

Depends - did they have an immediate clear out of these people following gross misconduct? That's the only time I've seen similar announcements.

No, all staggered, not all at the same time-all throughout the year

Not a startup-a huge multinational. Although this team is fairly small.
Odd, isn't it. I am looking for something else for different reasons anyway but just wondered what others thought!

They could be just poor at sourcing good staff. Are they a large company? Are you enjoying it?

If you feel uneasy keep your CV up to date and eyes open

Octavia64 · 08/10/2024 12:28

The staff have signed an nda and been paid off would be my reading.

This is usually because either the company or someone in the company is doing something illegal - sexual harassment, disability discrimination etc.

Keep your eyes open.

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/10/2024 12:29

It depends. These are clearly people who have gone out under an NDA, but for some colleagues in positions key to the business that can be standard practice if they’ve resigned or negotiated voluntary severance.

They are a large company. It's not my ideal job, but it is a qualified position and I applied and took it as I had struggled to find work in my field.

Nobody was in a particularly prominent position, all on basic level, professionals/qualified but just one above admin.
